Poll
There should be a poll, something that shows how many got good vs bad devices, this way, people will not be scared and cancel their orders, just because they visited this forum and they see so many complains.
I have Kobo Aura, and I ordered Kindle Voyage to replace it, mine should come in 4th of November, I like the Kobo devices, and I was going to get the H2O for the resolution and screen size, but then I reconsidered for a better screen on the Kindle Voyage and the prices of books on Amazon. The only Kindle PW2 that I have seens I didn't like, because it had strange color gradient from top to mid screen, and then it's white, but the text looked good (not the fronts though) I hope there will be a poll, and that people can see the percentage of bad devices, this is also a good feedback to Amazon, after all, they have done nothing but improve the kindle devices year after year, they get paid for it, but they are doing a good job. |

I agree that the gradual, linear gradient issue is much less distracting than the seemingly random blotches on PW1s. It is still an issue though, especially since it makes the screen blue rather than cream or white, at least on my Voyage. The text is way better on the Voyage than it was on the PW1 or PW2, and that helps substantially. But over all the front lighting on eInks doesn't seem to work as well as back lighting does on LCDs. I'm not sure it ever will. I'm inclined to think it will never be as good.

Same reasons why I can't tolerate that. I do photographer stuff as hobby and saturation, hue, etc, drives me nuts when not correct. |

I've not cancelled yet but I'm close to it. I'm waiting for a PW2 to turn up tomorrow. I'm just not sure I can justify the extra cost of the Voyage anymore. Especially as no doubt all the issues this year will get fixed for next years release.

Got mine today. I got the 3G unit. It came a week earlier than predicted. So far I like it. I do like having an on & off button again. Don't know why they put it on the back. The side buttons for turning pages work well, but I' more used to using the touch screen. I do like the flush screen. And so far no splotchiness or discoloring on my screen. Over all I'm happy with it.

Here is a photo of my Voyage. Color is fairly accurate in the photo. Text is sharper though as I didn't get the focus as sharp as I should have.

Hopefully by then they might go back to 2 kindle models, ditch the paperwhite, and charge a more reasonable price for the V2 (at $150 it might fly like a rocket...hardyharhar) Last edited by soondai; 10-23-2014 at 05:47 PM. |

It isn't too bad reading while in portrait mode as the gradient gradually changes from top to bottom, so each line starts and ends within the same color/tint. However, when I turn it into landscape mode it becomes rather problematic as with each line you cover the entire gradient. I like holding the Voyage left handed (I'm a southpaw) in Landscape because the bottom of the bezel is the largest bezel area and provides plenty of room to rest my thumb without touching the screen. But having my eyes constantly going back and forth across the gradient causes eyestrain.

I received the replacement Voyage 3g late this afternoon. The screen has a much more consistent "cream" tone throughout (vs the diagonal orangish / bluish tones on the 1st Voyage I received).
I'm happy with the replacement. I loved the consistent tone of my PW2 but found my eyes would get tired because the fonts were ever so slightly blurry. The Voyage's crisper fonts are the main reason I wanted to upgrade. (I'm not a physical turn button person -- I'm fine with swiping the screen to turn pages.) As others have mentioned, I initially thought the origami cover was odd but have found it works great. I'm happy for those who've received Voyages without any obvious defects, and hope that everyone wanting a Voyage gets a good one! ![]() |
