Don't get me started on how sound has perverted the movies.

Amazon sells....just about everything including "real" books. They just do it better.

I thought publishers had two goals: screwing the authors and screwing booksellers.

If electronic books are not real, then neither are paper books as they start life in electronic form of some kind.

I have been a bibliophile for most of my 66 years. I love books, hard copies, and generally hard cover. I have quite an assortment of classic fiction, bios, histories, and religious books.

I had no interest in ebooks in any format until getting my first 'smart phone' a couple of years ago, I took advantage of the google books, and kindle apps. Not only the savings in $ for the public domain freebies, but the savings in living space. The portability.

Now having just set up my first bona fide ereader yesterday, a Kobo H2O, I wouldn't be surprised if in the coming years I divest myself of a large part of my physical library, and go digital for all but certain beloved hard copies. YMMV.

I've never read anyone's thoughts. I have read the words they have written as a result of thoughts, but their actual thoughts are forever unavailable. Thoughts are mental activity. A book is a format according to one definition. It's not usually the appropriate definition. If someone asks you how many books you have read over the past year, they probably aren't asking you how many paper books you have read. If you only read e-books, and answered "zero", they would probably assume you don't read. Such an answer only leads to confusion, which indicates that defining a book as a format isn't the best definition.

Gee so reading other peoples thoughts doesn't come naturally to you .....

I read written thoughts, and often in the format of a book or an ebook. (Although right now I've been reading your written thoughts in the format of a post on MR )
