I would love to see some side-by-sides when the Voyage starts making it out to people. I admit I have never had a problem with the 6 inch screen size but at the same time, i've never seen a 6.8.
I do like my ereader to be small and the dimensions of the Kobo (thanks to the bigger screen) don't do it for me.

General consensus seems to be that the Voyager is out of this quadrant.
Sad that a "professional" review needs to be told about a month old release by a major competitor (the Kobo Aura H2O) by someone in the comments section (who pointed out there are several straight from manufacturer waterproof options already). Gives you a lot of faith in them calling it the best e-reader ever . Interestingly almost all of the reviews so far have raved about the Voyage but said almost nothing about how it compared to any competitors (or only commented about year old versions ), only comparisons to older Kindles.

I have a h2o since its release in france, and as much I really like the different reading experience it brings beside my kindle PW, I'm really disapointed about other things :

When I got it, I noticed right away four dead pixels (or bright points) really visible on a black screen.
Three were on the left side, and one at the center.
Since they were not disturbing on a blank screen, wich is majority the case when I'm reading a novel, I thought I could deal with it.

Unfortunately yesterday, three more dead pixels (dark points this time).
And the front light is less uniform than one week ago.

So maybe you're right, the H2o is better than any kindle.
But reliable ? I don't think so.
So I'm bringing it back tomorrow, and still don't know if I'll ask for a new one or a refund.

Yeah. A lot of what I've read boils down to 'this is more like a tablet than past kindles', and that's the main yard stick for success. As if many reviewers don't seem particularly into ereaders. One thing that stood out is many taking to the 'buttons' despite themselves.

I congratulate Amazon for finding a way to make buttons desirable to some of those obsessed with tech form over function. I'd have been out of the ereader market had touchscreen-only trends really finished off buttons entirely.

Thanks, J.P.S for posting the engadget review. As hoped, some interesting Voyage videos and reviews published today, a few more here:

I would say buttons are actually function over form and, just because people (like me) like them, it doesn't mean we're "obsessed" with them.

From the article:

No worries. Trying to defend buttons and the readers who like them is an honorable endeavor.

But in another thread, I'm reading about the Voyage having color variations. Cooler on the top 1/2 and yellowish on the bottom 1/2 and a replacement is not available from Amazon until November 26. from what I've read, there is no such thing as a perfect front lit Reader (where they all come without some sort of problem that needs to be returned). They all seem to have some that come with problem(s).

Mine looks perfect with no variations to the screen. That seems to be what most people are experiencing.

Has Engadget fixed the competition section or is still comparing the Voyage to The Aura HD instead of the H2O?
