I find if it is sitting on a flat surface the sound will bounce off and be better. But if I am going to listen to audio books or movies I will either use a speaker or bluetooth. So it's not too big a deal for me either.

Went to Best Buy. No HD6 on display. Only black Fires carried in store. Traded in 1st gen Fire. Left with $50 gift card. Will buy HD6 on Black Friday.

Thank you Tubemonkey! I went back to Best Buy today armed with information, including BestBuy's own posts on their own forum. It seems like a big problem all across the USA. Many stores have turned people away. But today, armed with all the information, I left the store with a $100 gift certificate. They didn't have any of the 6" Fires in stock.

I still need to find a store that has the HD6 on display. I thought it was stupid of the Best Buy I went to today to choose the HD7 for display instead of the HD6.

I traded in my KF Gen1 today for an HD-6/16 gig.

My Best Buy had the 6, 7 and HDX on display, and told me they had the 7/16 but really they didn't, they only had the 6/16 in stock.

My Gen 1 was on it's last days I am sure - the reluctance it showed to charging was getting more and more difficult to persuade it otherwise. I figured trading it in for a whopping $50 before the last battery power it had ran out and turned it into trivet was a no-brainer.

I think this sale is everywhere in the U.S., but am not sure. My Staples weekly ad, page 12, shows the Kindle Paperwhite for $89 (scroll down on that page and you'll see it, 9th row, 3rd column). It's full price ($119) online.

Is this worth it compared to an Amazon sale at $99, considering Amazon's great return policy?

Tempting.

Get the Staples offer:

Amazon = 30 days to return / customer pays return shipping costs
Staples = 14 days to return / customer returns item to store

Cancel that "Oops": tax in my state. Tempting again.

End result: Temptation won. Like all recent Staples Paperwhite buyers, I got the 4 GB, no-ads version. Loving it so far, compared to my unlit e-readers. Thanks for the help.

P.S. My Staples had a touch Kindle priced at $63, tagged in-store as a "Special Purchase." I don't know enough about the two Touch Kindles to know if it was the new Touch or the old Touch.

Darn it, i never found my charging cable, but saw that my ancient Nokia N800 is on the slickdeals list monkey linked to. I could kick myself for misplacing that stupid cable, and now the promo is over! Grrr.

My understanding from reading some of the SlickDeals chatter is that this is the 3rd such promo Best Buy has done this year. So I wouldn't be surprised if they do it again sometime soon. No guarantees; but you never know. So, my advice is to keep searching for that cable; and if need be, see about getting a replacement.

Not only that, sockmonkey. I just read through 18 pages of that slickdeals thread, and others have traded in their Palms, so i will try my luck with my old Pocket PC, the BB employees would have no clue what it is, but which was the first color internet tablet of its time. Another charging cable I must find... But I'll be prepared next time, if there is a next time.
