What book on your TBR list are you looking forward to the most?

I've been on a book buying binge recently, resulting in some much anticipated good reads coming. That got me thinking about the ones I am most excited to read next. On the Kindle I have Wilber Smith's "River God" a novel set in ancient Egypt that came highly recommended by a friend. On the Kobo, it's a gritty fantasy by Mark Smylie, "The Barrow." Reviews compare it to Joe Abercrombie's First Law series, which is one of my favorite of this genre.

What about you? Using a baseball term, who is on deck?

Well I'm very psyched since I realized that not adhering to a single genre has increased my chances of reading better books. I'm going to read A Game Of Thrones (notwithstanding that I'm wary about it), then The Gold Coast(I'm very excited about this one) by Nelson Demille. After that I'll read another book that's more than 600 pages, Hour Game by David Baldacci, my favorite writer. Only then will I calm down and read less chunky books.

Can we include books that are due out any minute now? If so, Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater.

For the most part, when I buy books in groups, I tend to read the most anticipated first, even when I'm reading another book at the time, so they don't really hit the TBR list.

Usually when I buy books in groups, they are either a group of backlist books that I've already read, but want the ebook for, or some new authors that look like they might be interesting. Most anticipated books tend to be pre-ordered and it's very rare for more than one such book to be released on the same day, thus they don't go on my to-be-read list, but rather my reading list. Does that make more sense?

Ok cool and new concept. You've got two lists: TBR and Reading.. I just may adopt that same approach to parcelling my yet to be read books. I have enough unread books where that might be a good solution.

Yep, I might be in the process of reading 3 or 4 books at the same time. Which one I'm actively reading depends on 1) if a new book that I really, really want to read just came available, 2) what mood I'm in.

I am with you, I usually have 2 or 3 books in process. Based on your inspiration, I think I will try a multi list approach, even though I am sure it is not unique. I am sure many are already there.

I am thinking: Current, TBR, Almost to TBR, and Hope to One Day Get There. That gives me four layers. Of course part of the fun will be discovering new books and placing them in one of the lists as well as periodically going thru and jostling the lists, moving books around. Like you said, changing of the mood could change the book's status.

How much fun can I have in a day! grin...

I just have a TBR, it is a list of books I haven't read yet but would like to. That seems to be more the definition.

If one of the books on it is vastly more important, it is probably because it was just magically transported into my "in-the-middle-of-reading" list.
(It isn't "to be" read, if it is "currently being" read.)
(Yes, I have an actual list of books I am concurrently reading.)

Do people really waste time ranking their TBR when they could be reading it?

I don't think I will spend a lot of time on a strict ranking process, book by single book. But I think a general list approach will be fun and ensure I am reading the right book at the ime that meets my mood and current interest mind set.. anticipated the next reads is always fun..

None. I don't have TBR list. Depending on the mood l search bookstores, buy and read on the spot. Rinse, repeat. I have 11 books in "New" folder which were occasions too good to pass up price wise and 13 in "ln case of boredom" folder. But l was not in the mood to read them when l bought them so knowing myself they will rot in their respective folders for a long time.

Buy and read immediately, with back up folders to stave off boredom. I like it! I buy books at a pace I can't match by reading, but I do appreciate that it works for you!
