It's nice to read outside in summer. Goodness knows we don't get that many warm summer days in England, but on those that we do get, out goes the sun lounger, and out goes Harry, to read on it .

Yes but it's not something I would recommend for reading in direct sunlight.

I often meet friends in parks and I can read while I wait for them. Sometimes I enjoy eating in outdoor cafes and I usually read while I eat.

With my Kindle Paperwhite, I have the choice of where I read. I can read indoors, outdoors, in the dark, in the light. I can read anywhere.

I am aware one can read on a tablet but I question how many actually do.

Sony T3, which recently replaced my Sony 300. Went to a lighter weight, a larger screen (6"), and it still fits in most of my shirt pockets

I answered this question above (and it's included in my profile, to the left of this post).

In response to patrickt: This data's relevant to your point, and interesting (IMHO):

Kathryn Zickuhr and Lee Rainie. (January 16, 2014). "E-Reading Rises as Device Ownership Jumps: A Snapshot of Reading in America in 2013". Pew Internet Research Project.

Reading outside isn't necessarily reading in direct sunlight. I prefer to read in the half-shade, which makes reading a LCD screen difficult (without increasing brightness to full and thus decreasing battery life dramatically), but an e-ink screen is perfect in those situations.

Yes, I've spent many hours the last two years down by the river reading in the shade of a tree. An eink screen is perfect for that. I find that a tablet doesn't work as well in that situation.

Kathryn Zickuhr and Lee Rainie. (January 16, 2014). "E-Reading Rises as Device Ownership Jumps: A Snapshot of Reading in America in 2013". Pew Internet Research Project.
The article starts: "As of January 2014, some 76% of American adults ages 18 and older said that they read at least one book in the past year."

No way. Self-reporting is not reliable. I do not believe that 76% of the population 18 and older read at least one book if we're excluding comic books.

I know people who claim they read all the time on their IPad. If I asked what book they're reading, well, there isn't one right now. What book did you last read? Then it's either I don't remember or "Dreams of my Father." Right.

I read on my smartphone at odd times but I do not claim that I read on my smartphone. I'll have a glass of wine with dinner once a week or so and I don't say I drink.
