i went back and followed Phillantrop's steps and was able to finally install the iosreaderapp and create a recognition on calibre of marvin as well see marvin on the main tool bar. However I still get this message and still am not able to update the library in Marvin, even though calibre shows that it is connected to the marvin on the iPad.
calibre, version 2.5.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device database disk image is malformed Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 87, in run File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 502, in _books File "/var/folders/0r/d9sfrhnn3c3cv7l604nsyqj40000gn/T/calibre_2.5.0_tmp_s48gQT/akOkry_ios_local_db/Marvin_overlays.py", line 310, in books DatabaseError: database disk image is malformed |

The Windows / iOS >= 8.0.0 issue is now being tracked on github as https://github.com/Philantrop/calibr...ons/issues/136
The Mac OS X "malformed database" issue is now being tracked on github as https://github.com/Philantrop/calibr...ons/issues/130 Please subscribe to these bugs if you want to be notified of any progress. At the moment, there's no need for further debug logs on either bug. |

Warning to anyone with the plugins installed but not working. I plugged in my iPhone to add some more videos to it and forgot I had calibre open. This started the endless cascade of "Unable to connect to iDevice" popups, but behind the iTunes window so I didn't realize it was happening. These eventually caused my entire desktop to freeze and crash.
I have since disabled the plugin in the hopes that if I do that again, I won't crash my computer. |

I haven't been able to connect my ipad to calibre for several weeks now. I uploaded the latest version 2.6 this morning, hoping that would provide the solution, but no such luck. I unistalled and reinstalled the IOS pluggin several times. Calibre crashes as soon as I connect my ipad. Any help is appreciated!

Cross-posting from Github where a friend of mine (a software developer) agreed to take a look and see if he can help. Here was his response after working on it some this weekend:

IIRC, the only DLLs that calibre ships with on windows for libimobiledevice are libimobiledevice, libplist and libusbmuxd so I'm not sure what support libraries your friend is refering to.

Ah he is talking about third party dependencies. Instructions for compiling those are here: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...dows/notes.rst

I've just re-installed windows on a rebuilt PC, installed Calibre - then updated Calibre to latest version, and updated all plugins.
On starting Calibre I received a message advising that I need to install the Reader plugin, but when I did I got the following error: --------------------------------------------------------- calibre, version 2.6.0 ERROR: Plug-in installation failed: A problem occurred while installing this plug-in. This plug-in will now be uninstalled. Please post the error message from the details below into the forum thread for this plug-in and restart Calibre. Please note that I have had no problems in the past. Am I doing something wrong? Last edited by Wyndham; 10-22-2014 at 06:14 AM. |

Panic over
Not quite sure what I did, but by restarting and trying again, the plugin has installed successfully.
