i went back and followed Phillantrop's steps and was able to finally install the iosreaderapp and create a recognition on calibre of marvin as well see marvin on the main tool bar. However I still get this message and still am not able to update the library in Marvin, even though calibre shows that it is connected to the marvin on the iPad.

calibre, version 2.5.0

The Windows / iOS >= 8.0.0 issue is now being tracked on github as https://github.com/Philantrop/calibr...ons/issues/136

The Mac OS X "malformed database" issue is now being tracked on github as https://github.com/Philantrop/calibr...ons/issues/130

Please subscribe to these bugs if you want to be notified of any progress. At the moment, there's no need for further debug logs on either bug.

Warning to anyone with the plugins installed but not working. I plugged in my iPhone to add some more videos to it and forgot I had calibre open. This started the endless cascade of "Unable to connect to iDevice" popups, but behind the iTunes window so I didn't realize it was happening. These eventually caused my entire desktop to freeze and crash.

I have since disabled the plugin in the hopes that if I do that again, I won't crash my computer.

Hi there,
I've carefully installed and configured the iOS reader application and the Marvin XD plugin as described in this forum.
I restart calibre: everything is ok. Both plugins could be seen and configured.
I stop calibre, connect my iPad with my PC, start Marvin, touch "load books" and "Calibre", start calibre and receive the following message:
"Marvin XD requires the iOS reader application plugin to be installed, then restart calibre" with two links.
I disconnect my iPad, restart calibre and both plugins could be seen, configured and seems to be ok.
I've tried a new installation (Calibre + both plugins) and a hard-reset of my iPad. Nothing changed!

thanks a lot for helping!!!
I have exactly this problem with IOS 8, Calibre 2.5.0 x64, latest Marvin and IOS Applications plug-in 1.44

I haven't been able to connect my ipad to calibre for several weeks now. I uploaded the latest version 2.6 this morning, hoping that would provide the solution, but no such luck. I unistalled and reinstalled the IOS pluggin several times. Calibre crashes as soon as I connect my ipad. Any help is appreciated!

Cross-posting from Github where a friend of mine (a software developer) agreed to take a look and see if he can help. Here was his response after working on it some this weekend:

Quote:
Well, worked on this for bit.

Few things so far….

1) The source code as downloaded is already configured into a VS2012 project, which is why I figured I needed 2012.
2) This project builds in debug mode “AS IS” in VS2012, with the exception of two recovery library’s that are not listed in the instructions on what’s needed to rebuild the imobiledevice library.
3) Going through the instruction to recreate the projects is missing a few steps, as some of the code and header files in the vendors folder, which is not listed as needed in the instructions, are assumed to already be there or already be built. So it’s a trial and error process figuring out which pieces need to be pulled over. The fact that the existing solution builds indicates all the missing parts are there somewhere.
4) Started going down the route of changing over the existing solution to incorporate the changes listed in the build steps, but the release configuration isn’t configured at all so once again, going through a trial and error to get the release aspect to build with the changes.

So taking more time than anticipated.
If anyone can help answer his queries, perhaps we'll be getting closer.

IIRC, the only DLLs that calibre ships with on windows for libimobiledevice are libimobiledevice, libplist and libusbmuxd so I'm not sure what support libraries your friend is refering to.

Comments from the developer trying to help with the compile:

Quote:
Well to answer the first question, although caliber only ships with those, the source for those libraries references and pulls in other lib files like libxml2.lib.

Which is actually referred to in the directions to setup as a dependencies when setting up new projects.

• Properties -> Linker -> Input -> Additional Dependencies: libxml2.lib

It also talks about this file existing in:

• Properties -> Linker -> General -> Additional Library directories: ~/sw/lib (for libxml2.lib)

That folder doesn’t exists in my world but I found it in a debug folder.

The setup also calls for setting up dependencies to the following libraries:

• Properties|Linker|Input|Additional Dependencies:
libeay32.lib ssleay32.lib libplist.lib libgen.lib libusbmuxd.lib ws2_32.lib

the first two lib files are openSSL libraries that I went and found on the web and downloaded, these were not part of the downloaded code…whether the ones I downloaded are the versions needed or if version matters I have no idea.

These came into play because of another change adding the following preprocessor definitions:

Preprocessor Definitions:
ASN1_STATIC HAVE_OPENSSL __LITTLE_ENDIAN__ _LIB

Adding the highlighted preprocessor definition included code to be compiled which referenced OpenSSL.

And Part of the issue is the solution as downloaded, where everything compiles, is compiling everything as static .LIB library’s. The directions for two of the libraries being compiled have them output to a .DLL. Which makes a difference in the way linking to dependences are done.

Ah he is talking about third party dependencies. Instructions for compiling those are here: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...dows/notes.rst

I've just re-installed windows on a rebuilt PC, installed Calibre - then updated Calibre to latest version, and updated all plugins.

On starting Calibre I received a message advising that I need to install the Reader plugin, but when I did I got the following error:

I tried again by opening Marvin on my iPad and running the Marvin Connector, and then installing the plugin, but obtained the same error.

Please note that I have had no problems in the past. Am I doing something wrong?

Panic over

Not quite sure what I did, but by restarting and trying again, the plugin has installed successfully.
