It all boils down to no device is perfect for everyone (& no perfect device for some ). I like how adjustable my Kobo is, but there are other things I dislike about it, just as there are things I prefer the "Kindle way".

Interesting. Is it the Logitech Bt mouse? And N7 2012 or 2013? I have the Logitech Bt mouse and was amazed to find that it works with my Nexus 7 (2012) and not with my iPad. But I assumed this meant that mice work with Android in general, and, partly based on this assumption, I was planning on getting the new Nexus tablet that will be announced soon if the price is right.

Ditto here. I do occasionally use the dictionary, but otherwise the only options I make use of are font size and light level. From time to time I change the font type just for the sake of change itself, but it's not something I would consider critical to my reading experience.

Would I make use of options to alter the margin size, etc.? Possibly. But it's certainly not something I consider a major issue. Then again, I don't consider GoodReads integration a major issue, either. I couldn't care less if that functionality was there or not; I keep my Kindles in a wifi-off state and update GoodReads from my computer.

All I care about, I guess, is the barebones functionality, and how well it does it. Are the fonts clear? Does the reader cause eyestrain? Can it handle the formats my books are in? Those are the only things I really care about.

(I should note that thanks to Calibre, format isn't an issue. I do wish Kindles handled epubs natively; it would be nice not to have to worry about converting.)

This amuses me also. I thought my Sony 350 would be great to play around with trying custom fonts, until I realised I had to alter the CSS of the book to get it to work. Too much faffing about so I just stuck with the default.

Since we are discussing formatting on the Kindles...

Using Calibre, can you get the exact line spacing, font size, margins, paragraph indent...

Thanks.

Seems to be well on its way. Pretty excited for this, actually, provided it'll be under $500. Can't really see it be more expensive, if they want it to be competitive, but we'll know soon. The N7 was incredibly cheap for its specs.

But yes, we're OT.

I'm not sure I've ever found a way to set a book margin outside of the Kindle's system margins; inside, yes.

I would be keen to know how, if this is actually possible though!

Mouse is Logitech M557 bt mouse. Nexus 7 from Asus model K008 built in july 2013 - I think that should be the 2013 model. The box says it has BT4.0. It is in a Zagg Autofit BT keyboard/case - and both keyboard and mouse work flawless together. This setup is my primary interface to MR.

Just remember that the mouse buttons do the same in Android (no right or middle button support yet). The wheel (scrolling) works just fine, pushing the wheel to the left is back button, to the right no funcion.

Cool, thanks. I have a similar mouse and it works with the 1st gen N7 as well. I need mouse support for when I VPN into work from a tablet (luckily, both right and left click work on my virtual desktop), and since my current setup works, I just assumed all Android devices have BT mouse-support. Good to know it can vary.

How many would like to have the Kindle with settings that give a look similar to the sample?
While we're spouting opinions:

I'd absolutely HATE those settings. It feels uncomfortably crowded to me and looks UGLY. The one on the right looks MUCH better.

But the issue here is you like different setting then someone else. On the H2O, you can change the margins and the line height to what you want and someone else can set things how he/she wants. On the Kindle if you do not like the smallest margins and the line height, there's not a lot you can do.

Agreed, the last choice is laughable. Surely no one ever uses it, the margins are so wide it's ridiculous.
I think that width is supposed to replicate reading a newspaper column experience? People who speed read would possibly use that quite often as I once read that the thing that slow most people down as they read is the time it takes for them to roll their eyeballs from left to right. Speed readers read down a page instead of the zigzag movements more commonly used by the average person (like me) so I guess the widest margin setting is for the super keen speed readers.
