That's fmon not working at all. Probably a good thing, because usage of fmon is strongly discouraged for the typical user, since it is much too easy to shoot yourself in the foot (create an endless loop without ability to fix it).

KSM starts upside down, and does not respond at all to either tapping or the power button. advboot works, but selecting koreader takes me to the directory screen, which looks fine (albeit with small font size), but does not respond any input.
OK, thank you. As for input event handling - I guess there are some major changes behind the curtains. So advboot does in fact react depending on user input, right? Let's see what it does what we don't do yet.

Thank you for the feedback!

Koreader 758.

I left my reader sleep for the last few days (it seems like a crime, doesn't it?)...
After a whole day in suspend it went from 100% to 50%!
After another whole day it had gone to 43%.
After yet an other one, it didn't open at all!
I open it by connecting it with a charger.

So no more sleeping from inside Koreader for me.

I wonder if tshering could somehow make KSM display the jpeg that's in "/mnt/onboard/.kobo/koreader/temp" while sleeping ....
@embryo I also see higher than expected battery drain on sleep, I'm on 758. Will update and report back.

That is correct, yes, advboot launches koreader, which does not react to any input.

3 bugs by the river.

I opened these issues at github, but I will also post them here for reference.
  1. When reading a pdf in re-flow mode, some times highlighting a word opens the dictionary with an different word (that is near by).

    UPDATE: Its a known bug.
  2. While reading an epub, using landscape uses 2 columns.
    Changing 'DCREREADER_TWO_PAGE_THRESHOLD' in 'defaults.persistent.lua' to 0, 2, 7, 9, 20, 200, 2000 did not produce 1 column view.
    (This is an older bug that I didn't find a solution)

    UPDATE: A workaround is to change the 'window.landscape.pages' in 'data\cr3.ini' to 1.
  3. Set the front light to 1, turn it off, trying to re-open it does not work.
    With values 2-100 works OK.
    Is it related to the infamous "1% Nickel bug"?

With 785 overnight I had 90% -> 80%, during the day -> 71%. But after some hanging during trying to highlight two consecutive paragraphs it went up to 72% .

So battery metering seems a bit imperfect. But in this version I very rarely get close to 0 consumption, in 732 I had.

785, charged yesterday.
This morning => 100%
After about 60 minutes reading (and all in all about 24 hours after the charge) => 100%

The other day I forgot that it was on Start Menu instead of Koreader, so it did not go to sleep after I closed the sleep cover. That drained the battery from 100% to 75% after 9 hours turned on with light at 55%.

I start it from advboot, but I think it should have no impact, anyway, strange, that you have around 0, I have around 20% per day with same version.

Thank you! I've been looking for this kind of workaround to occasionally read in landscape.

Overnight again 52%->52%
Just checked (2pm) 52%

So little to no battery loss in standby in 785 (and yes I moved between pages to update minibar).

It now occurs to me that I need to read a little more often as I've only turned the Kobo on to check the battery % in the last few days!

I think that chrox fixed it in the last release.
Its a pity now that we know the workaround.

I use this procedure to be sure of the values...

About the overall consumption, some times I also get very small differences, but some other times ...

Fail to install on Aura HD firmware 3.8.0

After upgrading the firmware to 3.8.0 on my Aura HD, Koreader and fmon can no longer be installed.

This is what I did:
- Delete the old koreader.png, the fmon folder and the koreader folder;
- Reboot;
- Copy the image, reboot;
- Copy the files of fmon and koreader, reboot; (tried both builds 785 and 804)
- Only the image is displayed without launching fmon or koreader.

Does anyone also encounter this problem and is there any fix for this?
I have used Koreader all the time and it is far superior to the default reader program. Thanks for the effort and your help!

This is not a Koreader but a FMON issue, please ask your question in the corrresponding thread.
And, you should not use FMON at all but Start Menu!

Sorry I got lost here. I used to install fmon to launch koreader. It seems things have changed recently. Could you give me a pointer for how to install and use koreader via the "Start Menu"? The instructions in the OP still refers to the old installation method. Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind. Just found the solution here and it works great!
