There is a Mexican fast food restaurant nearby which I might not be visting anymore. The food is good, but the cup full of dead insects that I received from their fountain machine today has put me off a bit.

I did. They let me get a bottled drink instead. However I never saw them actually investigate the problem, or even just turn the machine off and stick a big out of order sign on it. And the fact that there were insects suggest that haven't been been performing the mandatory nightly cleaning of the soda nozzles, so who knows what else could be collecting inside.

The most recent Doctor Who "Kill The Moon" was really disappointing.
Doctor Who is supposed to be science fiction. We're given one impossible thing to believe - The Doctor himself, with his Tardis and backstory. But things in and around the Earth should be 'realistic'. So. We have an episode set on the moon. But how are the BBC going to handle the gravity situation? Let's have the Moon mysteriously gain mass, so that it's surface gravity is now 1g. So, the Moon gains 1.3 billion tonnes mass. That's 1.3x10^12 kg. But the Moon's mass is around 7.3x10^22 kg. That's a TINY change. No way that would be noticeable without instrumentation. And then there's the space shuttle. Somehow, there's a recent mining station on the moon, with people living there, but there's no way to get to the moon any more except by refitting an old space shuttle? And then there's the landing. Somehow the space shuttle has gained invisible retro-rockets that can generate 1g or more of force, because they don't notice that the shuttle is falling to the moon when they first appear in it. And then there's the whole idiocy of creatures gaining access to a sealed station (sealed because it's retained its atmosphere). And the fact the the creatures are Spoiler:
Ughh.... and that's just the first few minutes! It just goes on being terrible, scene after scene. What a waste of a great cast. Last edited by pdurrant; 10-06-2014 at 05:31 AM. |

Also, the moon station was looking at the side of the earth in total night, when they did the lights poll. Mere moments later they were on a beach the Earth's surface, looking up at the moon, in broad daylight.
I'd also like to know just where all that increased mass came from. Eggs don't gain weight just before hatching, because physics. |

But Doctor Who hasn't been sci-fi for a long time. It's fairy tale hour, which I quite like, actually. Though the logic holes in the last one were indeed a bit much. And the story was much too similar to the one where they had tied Spaceship Britain to that giant space whale. That one was a brilliant episode, btw...

Seriously? But you're okay with civilization being threatened by Daleks -- robots which can be thwarted by a reasonably high roadside curb?
(I have loved Doctor Who since the early 80s, but I never look for logic there!) My Doctor Who rant: When I was at my Doctor Who watching peak, the absolute quickest way to rid a room of any human with a pair of X chromosomes was to mention Doctor Who. Now that I'm too old for it to matter, Doctor Who is cool! It's just not fair! Last edited by cromag; 10-06-2014 at 05:24 AM. |

Shhhhhh! You're interrupting my "let's pretend* fantasy hour!
I've been a Whovian since I was 11 or 12. Back then it seemed like the only people that knew Who were close to 10 years my senior and more than likely in college. However by the time high school came around it seemed there were a lot of Red Dwarf fans and I just never got into them. . . A little rant, I would truly love to see the dahleks exterminated for good. So over them |

The trick to a good fairy tale is to only have one or two holes you can drive a truck through - holes that are necessary for the plot - and to keep the rest reality-consistent. This episode failed dismally at doing that. |

I have to agree: even by recent Doctor Who standards, the logic in this episode is piss poor.

Ugh. My mind. I've been torturing myself by worrying that I said something stupid to my mom's tenant when he called me while she was out of town that would make him think he could ride out his deposit the last month (they're leaving the end of Oct). This got especially acute when the rent still hadn't arrived on Saturday. Well, it came today. I will worry and obsess over silly things.
