ePub opens in browser instead of downloading
On my Windows laptop, when I click a link for an ePub book, it opens in the browser (Firefox). I've verified that I don't have any ePub add-ons installed in the browser. The URL shows up like this one from the Baen Free Library "chrome://lucidor/content/viewepub.xul?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.baenebooks.com%2 F10.1125%2FBaen%2F1439132879%2FFledgling.epub".
I cannot figure out how to disable this and simply have the browser ask me if the file should be opened or saved. Does anyone have a suggestion? |

Here is a link that will show you how to fix FireFox to stop auto-opening when you download ePub.

Jon -- thanks for the reply, but I had already set the Applications option for ePub files to be "download". However, Firefox continues to open the ePub with that strange URL.

That url implies that the following plugin is installed whatever you might think: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lucifox/
It makes no difference what Application is set for EPUB files, Lucifox will intercept the file before it gets passed to that part of the FF code... in much the same way you cannot set a default Application to open HTML files. ![]() If you say you have checked and it isn't installed, I don't know what to say... maybe try a fresh profile? Is it possible Lucifox is being transparently loaded into Firefox by a program on your computer -- some programs hide the fact that they install addons to Firefox, and they don't show up up in about:addons -- does Lucidor do that??? Also, you can save the file by right-clicking and using Save As -- this will circumvent any plugins trying to hijack certain filetypes.

That works for sites with a direct link to the ePub file. Unfortunately, some (like Arc Manor/Phoenix Pick) use a javascript URL, which is what led me to ask this question.

I didn't deliberately install it, so I'm not sure where it came from. But now that I've disabled it, I'm a happy camper. |
