Those codes usually work on a kobobooks.fr account which can be linked to your FNAC account (then the bought ebooks will appear/can be downloaded when you're connected to your FNAC account). However I never succeeded in using a code on the FNAC account.
Until recently, pretty much every code was working in France. Sadly, now, the contest codes only apply to US, UK, CA

Most of the lists are like that. It seems to be a model they are using more frequently.

I tried it on two titles actually from the list that popped up when I used @jeesc's link, and it didn't work on either.

I wondered if it is perhaps country specific - many of the titles seemed to pertain to Australia, and so maybe it is specific to the Kobo Australia store. I was too lazy to try that out though - I wasn't all that enamored of either of the books.

P.S. I was shopping in the US store when I tried the two books off the list.
