calibre is the only application that does this, so it doesn't seem like a gnome issue. most apps provide multiple-sized icons or if they want scalability they use svg.

just noticed that the bundled imagemagick displays a broken/missing icon too.

my workaround is to remove all of the calibre* and imagemagick* mimetypes.

calibre installs no mimetypes for imagemagick. And GNOME is the only desktop environment that does this, so it doesn't seem like a calibre issue.

ok. maybe you should put a "only kde is supported" message on the download page so people with the more popular gnome/unity desktops aren't disappointed.

It works just fine with both kde and unity. Like I said, it is a GNOME specific problem. And frankly the idea that GNOME requires every single application to distribute n identical copies of its icon in every size under the sun, thereby wasting tons of diskspace/bandwidth as opposed to just using one line of code to resize icons in menus is ridiculous. It is idiocy like this that prevents Linux from ever progressing in the Desktop space.

The Cinnamon shell/desktop seems to handle the icon resizing in its various menus and panels just fine, as well.

You are running Linux. Another thread assumed that Linux users had the extra skills needed to deal with common issues. (don't ask me to compile Calibre/Sigil . I am still a user that happened to start on UNIX )

GIMP?
