Black Hawk......4.75.......I read the book a while ago and liked it a lot but this audio was great. Listening to it, I realized that it was an amazing love story. If you haven't read her previous books you might think it slow in the beginning but I loved it.

+1 Such a shame....Ellora's Cave books on their web site, with their samples, were the first time I found romantica, and I've been hooked ever since.

I think I knew that about the Hockett books being mother-daughter team. Her covers would make me skip them if I didn't know they'd been previously pubbed by a trade publisher. Maybe the book I read was their first one, and they got better. I'm not averse to trying again, just haven't felt the urge to. I've been in a huge slump since the end of July. Normally I can read a book in a day or two, but lately it's taken me a week or more.

I don't think Jamie is fully informed on the issue. She spoke out about the lawsuit before knowing everything which was not a smart thing to do. How she feels about DA though I think her feelings are justified. It was an ugly attack on her not a bad review. I am still scratching my head on why she was attacked and yet there are several books on DA that are much worse and they have a good review.

I don't buy her being clueless about the lawsuit. This isn't the first time she stuck the foot in the mouth. There is a pattern.

She and her fans have a long and well-known history of attacking reviews that are critical of her masterpiece (often on Amazon itself). Honestly, even if I read NA I wouldn't touch hers with some else's Kindle. There's also the issue of pulled-to-publish Twilight fanfiction.

This is a box set of novellas that's on sale for 99 cents for what they're calling a "limited time." I really enjoy one of the authors (Kean, who writes Medievals), so I jumped on it. The stories are supposed to all be connected and start in history then follow a jewel through several generations. I've not read it yet.

Oh! I also meant to post a link to a blog post I came across that brought to mind some of the discussions we've had about historical vs mistoricals. It's by Sunita of Dear Author at her own blog, which I looked up because someone mentioned on DA that she'd posted about the EC debacle.

I'm going to pick up the book she says was a miss for her, because it does sound interesting. I think, though, that my recent slump is due to these issues in being frustrated over the same things she writes about. I nodded my head vigorously (to myself) many times while reading.

Now I take myself to bed and attempt to pick back up my book about a female leader of Welsh outlaws and the knight who loved her long ago. Maybe this will be the time it "takes" for me.

I love that she uses Category 1-4 in her post, although her definition of each is more strict than mine.

I just want to read something that's close enough to not throw me out of the the time period. For me it's like this.

Pure Regency - Austen - Heyer - Cartland
Traditional Regencies - These are like Signet, Chater, Wolf, Bough Layton...etc
Regency Lite - Hawkins, Jefferies, Chase, Micheals...etc
Mistoricals - Dare, Borrows, Galen And a whole slew of authors

I am sometimes in the mood for Pure Regency although I struggle through most of the time. Traditional Regencies are quick light reads but I love Regency lite most. Call them Wallpaper Historicals if you want. To me they are not mistorical because they have just enough Regency and dialogue to keep in the time period but still come up with interesting stories and characters that I can relate to. Mistoricals throw me for a loop with their talk and the way the characters act out of time specially the women. These are hard for me to read as I just can't suspend disbelief enough to read them although I have finish one or two most are DNF for me.
