Hmm, HarryT is right. There are reports that upgrading Lynx to latest firmware sometimes fixed the accuracy.
Maybe it's worth crossing to the other side ...

In my case (I have a Lynx), the update fixed the touchscreen accuracy. I had other issues - probably hardware - that required me to send back first one, then another T68. Third time seems to be the charm. Touchscreen is fine - not literally 100%, but rather close. No reboots at any charge level. It's been several weeks now. Keeping fingers crossed...

Hi,
I posted new updates for M96 and T68 (my first post in this thread ver. 1.6.4) with some new fixes and improvements.

Regarding touch screen accuracy issue - regardless if you have a Lynx or our version - in both version we use absolutely identical hardware and drivers for touch screen. So please don't try to change between software versions - it will not change the touch screen behaviour. 100% improvement is impossible in this hardware version. We are trying to use different solutions , to optimize it. If our latest update did not improve the TS accuracy of your particular device noticeable - lynx updates wont do it either.

Onyx engineers are working currently on the hardware of T68 in order to get best result of touch screen accuracy. Also the front light should be improved. Our new batch is delayed just because of that reason - we decided to wait for better hardware.

Good news for those of you, who wants to purchase M96 in next future - in our next batch we are going to offer bigger stylus (size of regular pen) with eraser function. So you will be able not only scribble but also erase your drafts immediately without using scribble menu.

Hi Booxter. You haven't done yourself any favours here. My device is not perfect but it's not too bad, and the other advantages remain worthwhile. I had expected later firmware versions would solve the problem. But I certainly don't like hearing that I have been sold a sub-standard device, and that the problem is hardware which will never be fixed! Right now you have a very unhappy customer.

Can you explain more, please, Booxtor? What is the cause of the problem? Why is it that the Lynx update really did dramatically improve the touchscreen accuracy for me and other people, too?

If there is a hardware problem, will Onyx be replacing the readers they've already sold which have the problem?

Indeed we'd like to know why some people seem to have it fixed (like Harry) while others struggle, with both versions of firmware. Or is it just hardware issues on some devices?

Also, I just applied the latest update. Did the accuracy issue become worse or is it me?
I have a video with tests before the update. I may shoot another one after to compare. I'm using app "Touch test"

I don't claim, that this issue with touch screen accuracy on current T68 devices cannot be solved at all. Onyx even does not consider it as a kind of malfunction or hardware defect.. The problem is - I am perfectionist. And when I say 100%, I mean something as good as for example my Samsung Galaxy S5. So please don't expect this level of accuracy. For main purpose - finger navigation on an ebook-reader it is already really acceptable.

The very first batch of T68 (mainly sold as Lynx branded) has come with software, which had obviously often problems with TS calibration in the first mass production version. This could be partially solved by software updates. I am sure, the accuracy is still not as perfect as e.g. on Samsung devices with capacitive touch, but really acceptable now. Onyx currently uses same technique for complete T68 line (regardless who is distributor) , so it is always identical hardware and drivers. However I am sure, that there are some perfectionist like me, who is still not satisfied with the result. After my massive pressure on Onyx, they promised me to revise the touch screen hardware and try to rework the technique for the next batch. I don't know actually, what exactly they are going to do and if they will succeed. I could be still not 100% satisfied though. I just hope it will work as expected.
Unfortunately Onyx don't really consider this issue as important, because it works quite acceptable for most of their customers.. If we would not have permanently bothered them with our complains, they would be probably still ignore it.

Hi Booxtor, will the owners of prior batches have option to order the new stylus from ereader-store and if so will it work fine with the former M96 hardware?

Thanks.

Yes, you can order and use new stylus on current device. However eraser feature of this stylus will not work. The PCB must be reworked a little bit for this feature. It is quite easy though. I will post instructions later.

It is certainly a malfunction or defect. It was not acceptable on my T68 before or after the update. I had thought maybe it wasn't possible to have perfect accuracy on an eink device until I bought my Boyue T62 which is the same as the Icarus Illumina E653. The touch accuracy is perfect - I can type as quickly on it as on my Nexus 7.

it uses more than two year old 6" capacitive screen, which has been produced by EINK millions of times and is already really polished. T68 uses very new 6.8" capacitive screen, currently produced by EINK in very small amount and seem to need polishing in this regard.

But I haven't heard any reports that the Kobo Aura HD, which uses the same screen, has touchscreen accuracy issues.
