I can't register my Kobo readers in ADE anymore, there are to much readers authorised, I have a Sony 650 from my GF,an old bebook,my 4 last sony's that I don't own anymore, a Glo, an Aura HD and some more devices,so in order to read new books on my readers, I have to remove the DRM...
There is no improvement with these ePub 3. In fact, one can easily convert them back to ePub 2 with no loss of anything. As for the DRM, same old DRM.

Over at Kobo, they take these ePub 3 and convert them to kepub. I just checked a recent ePub 3 release and yes, it is a kepub. So all that happens is we don't end up buying from Kobo.

I hope this conversion can be done with Calibre or a plugin.

In my country, Kobo is 25% more expensive then Google with the books..

You should be able to contact Adobe and request more device authorizations. I did that a 2 or 3 times before I started backing up the activation.xml file on my Kobo ereaders so I didn't have to activate after a factory reset.

Thanks.. never thought about that one... I have a lot of questions about epub 2 and 3,and how the old Sony will behave with 3.0.. or the Kobo.. If I convert a version 3.0 to 2.0 I need to bypass that DRM so Authorisation will not be the biggest problem, I want my epubs compatible with both Kobo and Sony.. But will my version of ADE download the 3.0 books when they come available.. but I have to search for that,we gonna be slightly

I was able to convert back to ePub 2 by editing the OPF. I cannot recall the book I did. I'll do Lock In and post both OPF files so you can see.

You also have to get rid of the NAV ToC as it's not used in ePub 2. But we still have the NCX.

The ePub 3 that Tor is putting out works on Sony Readers. Works in ADE 2 and should work in Kobo Readers since they use an even newer version of ADE then Sony.

Sadly, the content of the epubs that Tor is putting out with the epub3 versioning make very minimal use of epub3's extensions to the epub2 specification -- well, that was the case with 4 that I looked at (1 full ebook and 3 previews). As near as I can tell, all that was done was to add an epub3 nav.xhtml and an epub3 style content.opf. OTOH, they also included the deprecated toc.ncx file so I'd term these epub2/3 ebooks.

At times, I think Kobo is going to have to start running those "epub3" ebooks through an old epub2 reader just to see if they should make them downloadable as an epub2.

@JCWolf. My anwser is a bit late.

Only use the first method as the "# Initial replaces" are the "default" settings.
You should only customize the "replace_int" values, the same as the other patch sections.

Heres my full patch, the replace_int" values are set to 00:
Code:
<Patch>
patch_name = `Margins fine tuning`
patch_enable = `yes`
#
# Do not enable this patch unless you're sure you need it.
# It may cause the screen to be off-centre.

# Initial replaces
replace_bytes = 957626, 19 46, 00 21
replace_bytes = 95762A, 1A 46, 00 22
# Values for replace
# Left margin
replace_int = 957626, 0, 00
# Top margin
replace_int = 95762A, 0, 00

That would be great, then I can see the difference between it,and maybe there is a plugin soon available for Calibre ? I don't know Tor, I don't even know how you can see what is epub3 and not,I think I have to wait until I stumbled into one.. for some reasons i have a lot of epubs that are made with word and then is converted by a word plugin to ebook,that always produces garbage,a lot of unneeded tages taking up sometimes almost 50% of the book

If anyone has the ePub of Unlocked or Lock In (both by John Scalzi), look at the OPF and you'll see that it's ePub 3. Don't buy from Kobo as they sell those as kepub.
John, when you get the h20, you won't have to worry about those nasty Kepubs.
