Question: hide tag browser by default

			Hi there,

Apologies in advance if this seems like a stupid question, but it's been bugging me: how can I stop Calibre (I'm using the latest version, 2.4) opening the tag browser by default? I never use it, so have tried dragging the tag browser section to hide it, and toggling the tag icon, but every time I quit and reopen Calibre, it reappears. I've searched the forum and looked in the preferences and can't find anything about this. Any thoughts? |

@taja - Calibre should start with the same panels showing as last time (you probably know that) - what happens if you quit with the Book Details hidden and then do a restart?

There's no preference setting as such - its controlled via the the following item in the gui.json file which is in the calibre configuration folder Code:
"tag_browser_splitter_horizontal_state": [true, 200], With calibre closed down you could try removing that item from gui.json and start/stop with tag browser showing/hidden - calibre will create a fresh entry for tag_browser_splitter_horizontal_state BR |

Thanks! Yes, I assumed Calibre should have started with the same panels as last time, but that wasn't happening. I messed up the gui.json file, but then just deleted it and started again, which solved the problem (though I had to manually restore my preferences). So thank you!

@taja - drat, I thought of suggesting you copy it first as a backup

![]() Tip : whenever you're advised to 'edit' a file (whether it be for calibre anything else) always copy it somewhere as a backup. It's also much easier if you use an editor that has the smarts to layout and highlight different file types, e.g. Notepad++ on Windows, Text Wrangler on OS/X and Vim on Linux. Another thing I do is to include a backup of the configuration folder in my daily backup process, which also includes my calibre libraries. BR |
