I use a Speck CandyShell case (it's pretty thin) on my iPhone 5 & it's been great.

Apple said that it’s rare for one of its smartphones to bend — and just a tiny fraction of the 10 million next-generation iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices sold have reported an issue. The company urged consumers to contact Apple if they experience a problem.

So how was it possible for the guy that did the bend test to find a phone that bends in your hand?

I read this honest sounding review today: in short, the reviewer noticed his iPhone 6 Plus had bent and scratched irreversibly within days.

I've no info, but my guess would be yes - they've replaced a cracked iPad no charge for me before. Though they did check that it was in a case at the time.

I guess that it was because he was trying to bend it... most people aren't trying to test for bends so their phones don't bend unless they stress them... and sticking it in your back pocket and sitting on it sure counts as stress... still with 9 complaints so far out of 10,000,000 sales then it's obviously a serious problem already...

Apple pointed to five different tests that new iPhones go through in the development process, including what is known as "pressure point cycling test" when it applies substantial force on the display and enclosure hundreds of times while the phone is held by the sides. Apple said this process bends the enclosure repeatedly to ensure that the iPhone can be bent and pressed at reasonable force throughout its life.

Another test, according to Apple, is called the "sit test." This test simulates sitting on a hard surface with the phone in the back pocket of a pair of tight jeans. Apple said it runs the phones through thousands of cycles testing the phone in different positions.

So Apple is saying that the phones were tested for this kind of stress. It seems unlikely that the author of the youtube video stumbled upon a 1 in a million phone that bends under this kind of stress.

I guess he simply does not like his phones. Nobody does that "for scientific reasons" - pretty sure the financial loss by deliberately breaking the phones is made up by some other financial compensation. At least nobody in the right state of mind does it unscientifically on youtube.

Yesterday I have seen and played with both the iPhone 6 and 6+ in the Verizon store. Holding the 6+ in hand and it's design did not impress me too much. To get the phone that thin is some really nice engineering feat. I wonder though if the compromises to get there are a bit much. The part where the 6+ bent in the video (by the buttons) really does look super flimsy up close and personal. The golden color does look nice though and encourages to not use a cover which you should use with it. To be honest, I was not looking to actually buy one, was more interested in how design and screen quality measured up. The screen does look nice, but does not stand out as incredibly better compared to other branded high end phones. Full retail price was listed as $947 at Verizon - wow .

Ended up walking out of the store with a Galaxy S5 (plus Otterbox Defender case) for my wife, and a pre-ordered Galaxy Note4 for me. If anyone is interested, Verizon got a full retail price listed as $699.99 for the Note4 ($100 more than the S4 or Note3). Shipping date for the pre-order for me is october 23rd. We were actually just looking for my wife's phone - I was not aware that Samsung already announced a release date, let alone allows pre-ordering for the Note4.

I watched the YouTube video. It is not shown in real time. The time on the phone at the end of the video when he talks about the results of the test is almost thirty minutes earlier than near the beginning of the trial. Maybe he played it in reverse and was actually unbending the phone.
