Too many listed to collate into a single "type", other than science fiction and suspense. You could always insert the authors' names for the movies which were based on original novels, here: http://www.gnooks.com/ to see which other authors write in a similar vein. Well, based on the thrillers you've listed, I'd say try Harlan Coben, Gregg Hurwitz, Linwood Barclay, and Daniel Palmer.

I'd say take a look at books by Tom Clancy and Michael Crichton, since you like some movies based on them.

You mentioned Village of the Damned. This was based on The Midwich Cuckoos, by John Wyndham, who wrote several science-fiction novels, including the classic Day of the Triffids. You also mentioned The Hunt for Red October. That was a book by Tom Clancy, who wrote a lot of similar books. Red October was the first one to feature Jack Ryan. (Most of the others have been made into films.) You might like his Patriot Games, for instance. Mike |

There are three movies in there based on the writings of Philip K. Dick. Based on those, I'm surprised that a fourth didn't appear--Minority Report. And "Enemy of the State" also has some of his style of paranoia. I bet you would enjoy PKD, and recommend you start with his short story collections. If you're looking for more movies as well, A Scanner Darkly and Screamers both come from Dick, and The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are both heavily Dick-influenced. Since you listed Firefox, I'd recommend getting into books by Craig Thomas. I re-read his books a few years ago and from the earliest to the last, they kept getting better, and did not disappoint me through the second reading either.

An interesting contrast to Firefox is a book which turns it around, having the Russians steal a U.S. plane --- _Day of the Cheetah_ --- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Cheetah and examines some of the ethics and international consequences (not too much though, but this isn't as big a failing here as in some of his other books).
