Well, dang.
changed all three files to .save I tried two books, Ashes of Victory (Baen Mobi format. And another one that I converted from a text file of my own writing. In Mobi format . . . any ODD number of "pages" that's not 1, gets has the columns misaligned. This, btw, is the first time I've tried 5 or 7 columns. (a Suggestion of someone else. He's getting the same stuff happening, I wish he'd post here. I hope he, and you, understand that I'm not just fussing, I'm trying to help as best I can. You have built the best reader/organizer for content available and I hope it continues to improve. BTW, I noticed that NEW files are being created with those file names in the Appdata/calibre directory. Please note that initially, this time it popped into paged-3 column correctly, but when I activated the table of contents and then closed it, that's when wonky stuff started happening. |

If you are using the Calibre viewer then you are better of using epub files. The Calibre viewer is basically an epub viewer, and if you try to use it with any other format it will have to first do an internak mobi to epub conversion before it can view it. I wonder if your issues are a side-effect of this internal conversion.

![]() ![]() Aaah, I can reproduce the behaviour in version 2.3 if I futz with the TOC. However, if I view the same mobi in version 1.48 or 2.00 I cannot reproduce the behaviour (using the same viewer.json, viewer.py and viewer_themes.json files). So it would appear that something changed between 2.0 and 2.3. One thing I noticed in 2.3 is that I can slide the right edge of the TOC pane beyond the last character of the longest TOC entry, can't do that in 1.48 and 2.00. I guess what's the most annoying thing is that I've always used the prc/mobi format. I started out with a Palm Zire that I used pretty much only as a reader. Then I started using mobipocket on my laptop to organize books and read there. When the Bookeen Gen 3 came out, I bought one. I switched to Calibre, bought an Opus (which fits beautifully in my bag or apron pocket. Now, I mostly read on my laptop or the Opus. My husband has a kindle and I can put books on his kindle for him to read. I'm sort of the family librarian.
It's not that I can't convert them, it's just that it's a major paradigm shift. Also, I'm an Academic, ALL my reference materials and my own writing was converted to Mobi format using Mobipocket Creator (from Microsoft Word format). Changing all that stuff into Epub would mean I'd have to learn new software and . . . do it. Since I started with prc then mobi format . . . I've just stuck with it. I can also transfer books to my husband's Kindle for him to read. So, if I have to change . . . I guess I will. But there's got to be SOMEPLACE in the code where it says "how big is the window, this is where the columns go." And it has something to do with the table of contents thing because it messes up every time when that's opened and then closed or resized. Sigh. And YES, this behavior DID start happening Sometime with this last update. I guess I'll read convert books as I read them now, or read in two columns (4 is just too skinny). |

I'm still waiting for the output from
calibre-debug -w somefile And if you can reproduce it with a particular book, then open a bug report and attach that book. |

yes, I do, assuming that the book actually reproduces the issue.
