An unpleasant situation may arise if:
  • You have koreader 'open last book on start' and ...
  • that book got deleted or corrupted.

Koreader loops with a file not found message.

A solution to that would be for koreader to start in History menu when it can't find a file.

Starting in history menu could be also an option for startup (as already suggested).

Is there a guide somewhere on how to configure the touch area? My problem is that the Aura has a very thin border and its not comfortable for me to hold it with the thumb on that small space. So what I want to do is resize the touch area to turn pages and call home menu overall to 70% less so I get 30% more border on all sides, so that I can actually touch the screen without anything happening. Of course this would disable the long press dictionary lookup but I don't need that functionality anyway.

Can someone help me on what I need to do? Or point me in the right direction?

Cheers!

A way to do this is by editing the file defaults.lua
There is a section for zones.
I think you are interested in the first line (DTAP_ZONE_MENU).
Code:
-- customizable tap zones(rectangles)
-- x: x coordinate of top left corner in proportion of screen width
-- y: y coordinate of top left corner in proportion of screen height
-- w: width of tap zone in proportion of screen width
-- h: height of tap zone in proportion of screen height
DTAP_ZONE_MENU = {x = 1/8, y = 0, w = 3/4, h = 1/4}
I don't know about long press though...

I have a book with left alignment and a (I think) unreadable font setting, so I would change font and set it to justified alignment. By turning off the CSS it works, but in this case all lines are formatted the same way, the book not use h1, h2, etc. In the original (kepub) reader it works fine, ie. chapter titles are nicely bolded, and space added between title and normal text. Is there a way to keep the original CSS except for font and line alignment? Stock reader seems better in this, but the header informing me about what I just saw (title of the book) I also don't like.

Thanks for this quick help!

Do you know how to disable long press altogether?

So your Kepub ebook only looks "properly" formatted when you use the Kepub reading software? Gee... it's almost as if the ebook was specially made to work with that reader, and only that reader.

A few people use Sigil (see the forum for it here at MR) to make changes to the css files in the epubs they read. You can also select the render style in Koreader, including one you could make to have just the things you want.

I am guessing that you are referring to a header in the "ACCESS" epub3 reader? If you mean in Koreader you can turn that off and use the mini progress bar which you can dismiss.

Luck;
Ken

No, original format is epub, kepub is converted by calibre. And it seems epub was also made by calibre, as styles are named calibrexx. But no h1, h2, etc. so no header or things like this if I turn off the original css. Anyway, it was small change in the CSS, but would be useful, if without mendling in the css paragraphs can be justified and fonts can be changed. Or at least the second for any book, regardless of the css naming a font family or not.

As you are already using calibre, you might check out what calibre can do about embedded fonts and the other features you want. If you are making epubs for Koreader there is no point in having the plug-in convert them to Kepub, in fact I wonder what the original epub might have looked like in Koreader.

First I opened the epub from the hidden folder with books for koreader, and I didn't like the CSS change (all paragraphs had the same formatting), and I also didn't like the left alignment of the text. I checked the stock application, and used kepub as epub reader is painfully slow. I was easily able to change alignment to justified, and the font.

I know I can change css book by book, but I would be happier if from koreader I could do this on the fly (font change with still using the CSS of the book, even if font is set in the book), and it would even be better if alignment of the book could be set. I still use koreader, as stock application has the nice header with the book title, and it handles sideloaded fonts strangely, but in this respect, it is better.

I hope I explained it correctly this time

I seem to remember having the bottom menu "Embedded Style" = On, and changing to my sideloaded font.

As I mentioned you can make your own css to add to those listed in the menu, you will be able to use that with as many books as you want, just like the others listed.

Unfortunately it doesn't help as calibre is inconsistent (eg. calibre3 can either have a title or body, so you can't give it general formatting). The book I referred to defines only "Sans-serif" as font family, and I can change font, but I had a book defining "Times New Roman" as font family, and I was unable to change font, though it was on a 6xx version of koreader, so it might have changed, I will check it.

(Though it is good to know, that I can upload CSS, somehow I haven't thought it works like fonts.)

Is it possible somehow to highlight not just full words? (I would need it for using the dictionary, to get back to the base form of a word.)

Back with the elusive battery drainage problem.
734 consumed 35% in less than one day on suspend.
Back to re-check 721 and onwards...

@embryo: I don't think there is a difference between software versions that would cause that. Probably, it's rather a not deterministic behaviour in general, applying to any version. Which is too bad, of course. Probably, the standby functionality could use some debugging and more love. As all the APIs for that are proprietary, it's quite a mess.

Right, the suspend function is working much closer to the chip level than an application program. The routines to deal with suspending the CPU and other hardware functionality, are limited to that provided by the chip manufacturer, so the code to activate them won't change, in the application program. The Kobo firmware could be a more likely candidate, but it wouldn't be addressed there very often either.

Luck;
