Does this setting work for both formats? I also remember it having some trouble with the last few characters on each line being cut off.

I'm getting interested in the H2O (or Kindle Voyage) and if Kobo has managed to fix its old bugs with 3.8.0 it's certainly appealing.

I saw the same thing when I tried enabling Full Screen mode, even if it was turned off in the settings menu. Just having that line in the config file caused a lot of books to have cut-off characters. I ended up just removing it for now.

Interesting. I haven't seen that here but I'm using a sideloaded font for virtually all my reading and seldom change the font size, line spacing, etc. Did you notice any pattern (specific font, font size, line spacing etc.) that caused this or just all books regardless of your settings?

David

I could try again and check. It was one of my primary fonts so either stock Malabar or a sideloaded LexiaDaMa. The first two books I opened had every line cut off on the right-hand side (usually missing a letter or two) so I just removed the option from the config file. I don't remember if the books were sideloaded or Kobo-purchased, possibly one of each. Changing to a different font fixed it but I didn't want to have to settle.

Just wanted to mention it in case Nate came across it during his review, it's not the fault of the H2O, it's from using a beta feature that isn't ready for production yet.

Do you use the patch (kobo patch 38)?

Code:
<Patch>
patch_name = `Margins fine tuning`
patch_enable = `yes`
#
# Do not enable this patch unless you're sure you need it.
# It may cause the screen to be off-centre.
#
# Initial replaces
replace_bytes = 957626, 19 46, 00 21
replace_bytes = 95762A, 1A 46, 00 22
# Values for replace
# Left margin
replace_int = 957626, 0, 01
# Top margin
replace_int = 95762A, 0, 01
</Patch>

On my Glo I have to enable this "Margins fine tuning" patch. When it is disabled the screen is off center (left margin size is bigger than the right margin size) and some characters are cut off.
At least for the Glo this patch seems to do the opposite and centers the screen.

From what I've seen it only happens with kepubs, both purchased and sideloaded. I'm not sure if it happens with all fonts or not. I usually use Georgia and it happens with that.

Have you tried Cool Reader for Kobo - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=222803 - on the H2O?

This is a loaner, so I can't do too much to change the software or even risk breaking it. I'll take a look.

So? Unless you signed an agreement not to do so, go ahead.

Do a real review. Use it as many people do, by loading all sorts of non-Kobo content on it.

The worst that happens is that when you return it to the manufacturer, they can surely can undo anything that you do to it.

That's what factory reset is for. As long as you don't physically damage the unit...

One very important question: does it float?

I have noticed that adding the following line to the CSS file in ePub does seem to resolve the problem of text getting cut-off on my Aura HD. I am on version 3.8.0 (patched), solely use kepubs using Kobo Extended Touch Plugin and does read with "Show Header and Footer" turned off.

body
{
margin-right: 30px;
}

I tried this on few epubs with 30px and the text fits neatly at the centre of the screen of Aura HD. You might have to tweak that number for your device. I also noted that you'll have to remove any "margin-left" line from the body tag of the CSS.
