Ugh! I just saw this actually on one of my newsfeeds. Sure enough I go to my barnes and noble account and there is no download button next to the books. I hardly use b&n except when someone gets me a gift card. I have a kindle and use amazon primarily. I so however use calibre and disinfect each and every book I purchase. I am so glad I did this with the books I bought at b&n so I didn't really lose anything because the 20 books I did purchase there, are safe in my calibre library but it still is frustrating. Do they even realize how many readers they are going to drive away. I for one am not purchasing anything from them anymore and I will make sure my friends and family now know that I don't use them anymore. They lost my business, too bad. Not really a loss for me though. I guess this is a lesson in why it is sooo important to make each purchase really your own by running it through calibre and freeing it. I would have been screwed had I not done that as there were a few of those books I hadn't read yet.

I have a few hundred books in B&N and an old Nook Glow. I've never bought from them though as all my books are from Fictionwise and I safely downloaded them when they closed. They certainly don't seem to have a clue what they are doing. It's like watching the Titanic sink. |

I got 336 out of 343 using Nook for PC though a couple never had downloaded and a few I didn't bother with as they were just sample chapters rather than the whole books.

When using Nook for PC, B&N checks that the default credit card on the account is valid before allowing you to download some (most) of your already purchased books. At least for free books, as I don't think I've ever actually purchased a book from B&N. And free public domain books fall into this net... |

And you can't download comic books with Nook for PC. Nor can you 'read' the comic books in Nook to PC. |

After my Fictionwise books appeared on B&N, I made it a project to download all of my ebooks from B&N and store them in Calibre. Looks like that was a good decision. Haven't purchased an ebook from B&N since then, definitely won't be purchasing any more now.

How is this different from Amazon? I have to download my Amazon books to Kindle For PC and then load them into Calibre and convert them to epub. Apache |
