New Kindle Voyage

Can someone explain to me what is so special about the Voyage that it is more expensive then the new Fire's?? What am I missing??

It looks like there's a whole lot of improvements, but I'm not sure the massive price increase is justified. Maybe if it was waterproof (I'm actually quite disappointed it's not) i'd pay the premium, but as it stands I'll probably grab a second hand pw2 once they all go up on ebay.

I'm interested in a review of the front panel too since they've made the decision to switch over to glass; I'm quite sceptical.

That does not make much sense, there is a new basic kindle and the paperwhite still. They seem to just expand in the luxury category. If you look at kobo, they do this also with the h2o and other manufacturers like pocketbook also have expensive readers.

The middle class market seems to be around 100 euros and each manufacturer sells a product in this price range. All with frontlight and similar dpi. Only difference is, some have carta, some don't.

I think this readers do everything most people want such a device to do and they do it good. So now people who want more dpi can get it (kindle) and those who want a bigger device too (kobo).

That a new screen that surly isn't produced in such quantities is more expensive, should be clear.

As soon as I saw the page turn buttons I was sold. It's pretty expensive, but I justified ordering it by reminding myself that my birthday is 2 weeks later.

Ohh and it comes with a new cool Origami cover.

The verge video clearly shows same few formatting options and just a few fonts. I'm guessing that will never change.

The text still looks very grey to me, not dark black like a book.

Buttons?! (sort of)

I'm priced out at $199. I'm really glad I got my K4NTB (the device, not the CBS police procedural). Inset screen and real buttons. Yes, I consider both of those to be features. I hope this thing succeeds big time if only so that future devices will have some bezel page turning functionality.

Tragic though to see that monstrosity that's replacing the K4 at the bottom end. If my current device breaks, I think I might just abandon eink. I've been ereading on LCDs since 2003. Eink is nice, but I can live without it.

That price is insane. I'll likely get it, but if this is the path Amazon goes forward with I won't be one of those customers that upgrades each year. Between the Kindle and what Kobo offers, this is becoming an expensive hobby.

Edit: Got the Incipio' case for it. They're almost 50% less than the amazon case. Belkin has some also. They come up when you reach the proceed to checkout page

This is what jumped out at me. These numbers don't mean much as a real measure, but on a relative basis they've just chopped a 1/4 of the battery life claim off this device.
