I've been using the Amazon appstore from day one. Yet all things being equal, I prefer to get my apps from Google because updates are slower for the same apps from Amazon. Still, I have a few apps from Amazon installed on my devices because they're paid apps that I got for free (coins, credits, FAOTD).

Amazon can't use Google Play because their Android devices aren't Google-approved. You have to go through a bunch of rigamarole to get approval, and it costs money, I believe. I don't think, from what I've heard, because of the way they've changed Android, that Google would approve the Fires, anyway.

Ever since I tried the new video app (direct from Amazon), the Amazon app has been throwing up crash reports on my phone daily, even though I uninstalled the video app, and uninstalled and reinstalled the shopping app. And I'm not even using the app when this happens.

So you're saying crumbling B&N has the resources to jump through the hoops and get the play store on the nook but amazon can't? Could it be because Amazon wants to set up their own competing store? It's not enough Google gave Amzon an OS for free. They should help Amazon wrestle control of the platform away from them, too?

Not really relevant. Nobody's suggesting Amazon put the Instant Video app on Google Play for Amazon Android devices to use. Amazon Android devices don't need to install the Instant Video app.

What's being discussed here is Amazon making the Instant Video app available to Android phones/devices (non-Amazon) though normal Google Play channels instead of the hoops they're currently making them jump through.

They make their store-front app available to Android (non-Amazon) users though normal Google Play channels ... there's no reason they couldn't do the same for the Instant Video app.

Exactly; in fact, Amazon has at least 20 different apps on Google Play.

Now I must be really stupid because I can't figure out how to get this to work. I install the prime video app and it tells me to tap continue to install the Amazon app. I tap continue and it takes me to a webpage that has a link that says visit amazon.com/mobileapps from your mobile browser. I tap the link and that just brings up the exact same page I was on. It also has a place to enter my email to receive a download link. Guess where that brings me - the same exact freaking page I was just on! This same page also has a place to enter my phone number to receive a download link. I bet you can guess where that brings me - the same exact freaking page I was just on again!! I then see further down the page it has a link for 'learn more and download'. I didn't see this before because I am on my phone because Amazon won't allow you to install the prime video app on your tablet for some reason. This link brings me to Google Play store! Are you kidding me?!?

I install the Amazon app from the play store and now I want to see if I can find a video to test this out. I go to my app drawer and look for the prime video app. It's not there. I then go to the Amazon app store and find the prime video app and tap open. This brings me to the Amazon app I had to install from Google play. Huh? Real intuitive. Why can't the prime video app let me pick a video there? I know iOS has a prime video app - does it work the same there?

EDIT:
If you try to install from Google Play, you can't install the phone version of Amazon app on a tablet, but Amazon appstore lets you. I was on my phone when I first tried this - why on earth didn't the instant video app send me to the Amazon appstore to install the amazon app?!?

So if you want instant video on your tablet or phone, just install the phone version of the Amazon app from the Amazon app store, then install the instant video app from the Amazon appstore.

You can install Amazon's app store on any android device - https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.ht...shopall_adr_dl

If you don't want to install from Amazon's app store, Android Police has download links for both apks. Some download providers try to trick you into downloading their own download app so just make sure what you choose to download is an apk not an exe.

Thanks! I had already successfully installed it on my galaxy S5, but have now been able to install it on my galaxy tab pro 10.1 using the apks you provided.

Nexus 7 here, but still no success. I was in the loop of Amazon app-->prime video app-->browser, so I deleted everything and started over with the apk's from post 17. The 'phone' version of the amazon app won't even accept the tap for logging in.

I had to log out from the video app, and then log back in from the "main" app, and the second time, it worked. Wow, what a mess.
