Not a stupid question at all! Every method of deciding which group to which a person belongs ALWAYS asks for BOTH birth information AND sex. And in all the traditional Feng Shui texts that I've looked at over the past 40+ years, I've NEVER seen any mention about what happens if one changes! I guess 5,000 years ago there weren't too many sex change operations being performed...

When I compute the results for both male and female, using the same birth information, the results come out as Western Life group either way, but...
for each of the eight directions there are attributes that DO change depending upon which sex I enter in. The major concepts of auspicious or inauspicious (lucky or unlucky) remain the same but what they are lucky or unlucky about does change. That would determine which rooms of a house were used for what purpose. For example, as a female, the attributes of the West direction is Fu Wei, "Overall Harmony." This would be a good location for the living room or family room. When figured as a male, these attributes are found in the North-East sector, and the West would be a better place for a home office because of the Nien Yen Wealth attribute... And so it goes for the four lucky and the four unlucky directions. The Sheng Chi "Generating Breath" is found in the North-West when computed as a female, but South-West when computed as a male. This would be a good placement for the bed room.

Putting the bed room where the living room should be isn't 'bad.' It's just not taking making the best use of the natural earth energies found in those sectors. And that's all Feng Shui is about... making the best use of natural earth energies. It's not a divination or fortune telling system. It's just a way to get in harmony with earth's energies. In harmony = things seem to work out better, easier, more effective, etc. Out of harmony = well... the opposite!

A lot of it is actually intuitive... Without knowing anything about Feng Shui, the majority of people discover that they have chosen their regular seat at the dinner table or in the living room have placed 'their chair' facing their most auspicious Feng Shui direction, just 'cuz it felt better! That's what usually gets people interested afterwards... It felt better... Why? What if we...

I'm surprised that you are not finding anything in the historical data. Almost every culture at one time had acknowledged parts of the society that lived as the opposite sex. Usually male to female but there were exceptions

And it was true in China as well, but consider Confucian thought about 'women.' Women really didn't play a part in the 'important' thought of those days. They just made tea, made babies, and ran the household. Feng Shui is ALWAYS planned out around the 'head' of the family. Until modern times, that was always the eldest male in Confucian societies. The old Chinese colloquial expression for female children translates to 'maggots in the rice.' This was still in common use until about 30 years ago.

In more recent years, with many households without an elder male, Feng Shui was planned around the 'breadwinner' in the group. In my own family, when I was working, we designed our home based on my numbers. When I retired and only my wife was working, we planned our interior based around her birth information. I'm an Eastern Life group and she is a Western Life group, so all our auspicious directions are completely opposite. This actually works out very well, as we can both face our most auspicious directions and still be facing each other! These days she makes more money than I do, so we planned our apartment around a west-facing front door. But still, my desk faces north, her's faces west. At the dinner table she faces west while I face east. Our rooms are planned out based on a Western Life compass. Actually, we follow different schools of Feng Shui. I follow Pa Kua (Compass School) and she follows Flying Star Feng Shui. Her's is all number-based, while mine is all compass-based. We disagree often...

There is a more 'modern' school of Feng Shui that has evolved because of the apartment building/expense/lifestyle of these modern times. No one is going to cut a new door in a different direction, or pay to move to a different apartment just because they change jobs and a different group member becomes the chief breadwinner. This new school is called 'Black Hat Feng Shui,' and rather than an individual's birth information, everything is planned around the Front Door being the starting point for any planing. However, in China and in Hong Kong, Feng Shui is so important that even when building a new apartment building, they often have to design a hole in the middle of it so as not to block 'the dragon's breath...'



If you read Clavell's "Noble House," there is mention of the off-set front door into the Struan's building, being explained that they had to change the angle of the door to be in accord with Feng Shui. If you visit Hong Kong, and stop in at the 'real' Noble House, "Jardine-Matheson," HK's largest trading company, you'll see their front door angled about 15 degrees off from the front of the building...

We--my past life--once rearranged an entire Hotel site in the SE Asian locale, to accord with the Feng Shui required therefor. We also accorded with all local customs, vis-a-vis blessings, yadda, to keep people happily working.

On to the issue at hand: what you have previously described, in terms of what would "suit" each gender, sounds pretty evolutionary-biology to me--"wealth" or primacy/alpha status for a male, and the other ("harmony") for a female, so, given how s/he is living his/her life, I'd say you should calculate it as though s/he were a birth female. It seems both logical and intuitive--given what you've relayed--so hopefully, that is harmonious as well.

Clavell is one of my all-time favorite authors.

I doubt that there are very many men who, coming here as bachelors, haven't accidentally hooked up with a Katoey. While some are rather obvious, the majority are not. A couple of years of hormone therapy, and simple breast augmentation, an Adams Apple shave, and some lessons in cosmetics, movement, and dress, and without actually measuring shoulder vs pelvis, virtually impossible to tell. If you take a look at YouTube, with a search string of 'Pattaya Katoeys' or 'Bangkok Katoeys,' it really IS eye-opening. It's not surprising that most single men here have gotten quite a surprise later in the evening!

Gender reassignment surgery seems to be a booming industry in Thailand, and the country is a favored place for transsexuals from other parts of the world to go for the last step in the process. The quality is high, and the cost is low compared to other places.

The last I knew, there was a bit of controversy in Thailand, as the government attempted to cut down on "cosmetic" castration - largely teenage boys who wanted to become full post-op transsexuals down the road, and wanted to take a first step toward looking more like a girl.

I believe it's now officially illegal until the patient is much farther along in the process, but I doubt that has really stopped the practice. There are doubtless places that will do it if their palm is crossed with a sufficient amount of bhat and there doesn't happen to be a government inspector looking in their direction.

Afaik, China is in problems not having enough girls... The birth rate seems to be something like M/F 51%/49%.

In Japan, it seems that males are so dangerously disinterested in sex (and their country's women in general) that a shortage of children and workforce is threatening, with the country becoming unable to support the elderly. (So, the ratio old:young is rising to unsupportable proportions.)

Mind you, I only know what I read in the news over here.

I'm sorry, but...at a certain age, you can take almost ANY attractive young boy, put makeup on him, hide his hair, and make him look like a very tasty young girl. It's true, and when I look at that person's picture, I do see a young boy.

Last I heard, the difference was about 6 million. There were at least 6million young men with no possible mates. Of course, my instant response to that was, "well, as that (type of gender inequality in numbers) can't really occur in nature, I guess you should stop whacking girl babies." :-(
