Safepoint WDMyCloud
There is a problem with the Western Digital Mycloud device (kind of a NAS). More specifically the safepoint feature which does not work if you create a Calibre library on one of its shares.
If I remove the Calibre library from the share then the safepoint feature is fine. I have been looking for a process which keeps running after Calibre has been shutdown and may block the WDMyCloud. Sofar I did not recognize one. The problem occurs under Window 7 Ultimate 32 bits as well as under Lubuntu 14.04 32 bits. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance! What version of firmware are you using on My Cloud?
I have my Calibre libraries on a 2 TB My Cloud FW 3.04.01-230 have no problems with daily safepoints to My Book attached by USB. Having said that using the current FW 4.00.00-607 was constantly having safepoint fails. Edit: Should have added am using Windows 8.1, my Calibre library is about 18.7 GB / 1942 books Last edited by mrbrimi; 09-11-2014 at 03:57 PM. Reason: adding system details |

@Jochiehans = you need to read this ==>> Do not put your calibre library on a networked drive.
Calibre is not designed to operate on a network, it may work in a given scenario today, but there's no guarantee it will continue to work in that scenario tomorrow. The good news that a multi user client/server calibre is under consideration. BR |

Thank you so much. I do use the current firmware 4.00.00-607. So perhaps that is causing the problem. I will look for the old firmware and try to put it back.

Thank you for your answer Better Red. I did stumble on this message a couple of days ago. So what I did is removing the Calibre library on the WDMyCloud share and then only copied the library form the local disk to the WDMyCloud. So as as far as I know I only copied the files not the library.
Again the safepoint feature fails. |

Jochiehans:
You might want to reconsider your firmware choice. My personal experience is that the current FW caused too many problems so I reverted back. For instructions see http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Clo...are/m-p/773073. Disclaimer: I was banned from the My Cloud board for complaining about WD's lack of interest in acknowledging the problems with the current firmware. |

Well, thanks to the suggestions made on this forum my problem appears to be solved. First of all I removed the Calibre library from the WDMyCloud share by means of the delete functionality within Calibre. Then I just copied the Calibre files to the share again but this time "outside" Calibre.
This did not solve the problem at all. But in accordance with the help from BETTERRED I have decided not to use a Calibre library on a network drive. So I just copy the Calibre files to the WDMyCloud share. Secondly I returned to the "old" firmware as suggested by MRBRIMI. This did the trick at least for the time being. So if it is up to me this topic can be closed as solved. |
