Most libraries carry it. Chances are there won't be a hold on the first book. Now Skin Game, the latest, better plan on waiting a while with the long hold lists.

Actually as the first book is generally where most series start, I find that that's the book with the MOST holds.

No. The first book has already been read by everyone, and is now passé. We wouldn't be caught dead checking it out from the library.

I just looked at my own library, and the omnibus books 1-6 got 1 hold, 7-12 2 on hold. The single books first got 33, last got 54 holds. Not too bad for the less popular omnibus editions.

Ok a little bit of waiting involved, but much easier for the omnibus to start out - in ebook who cares if each book is seperate ...

The problem (for some of us) is trying to read the entire omnibus during the 3-week check-out window. Normally I need to check it out multiple times to complete them.

Ok. That makes it even worse of course. Glad my library allows me to choose my checkout time up to 3 weeks.

I always default to the longest setting, although I do make sure to check it in early if I finish it so the next person doesn't have to wait as long.

Then only read the first book. It is still a freebie that way if you wanted to test the waters. Not surprising the single books are more popular if the average reader only reads the 1 book a month.

I checked the Boise Public Library website. Searched for Jim Butcher in the author field. It gets 101 hits - but there are a ton of "hits" listed by authors who are rather much NOT Jim Butcher, not even close - except for a Jim Dutcher.

So I expand the full list and check all the boxes for the not-Jim-Butchers and hit the Exclude button and does it cut out all the wrong "hits"?

NO! It cuts them all! No results found.

Don't you just love completely broken database searches?

Normally I would agree but if the first book is any indication, these are not exactly slow reads. I am not a fast reader and I was done the first book within 2 days of starting.
