I give up. I already have the latest Amazon app installed and have installed the video app (on a Galaxy s5). The video app won't open past "you need to install the amazon app" but it's already installed! Anyone else successfully using this on their phone have any suggestions?

Is there an amazon shopping app in Google play? I mean, an app version of amazon.com. there doesn't seem to be one.

Thanks for the links to get this working on my N7. Still pushing for TTS via the Android Kindle app.

What a mess! My PC didn't recognize my Nexus 7 as a media device, so I had no way to transfer the APKs. I resolved the issue by deleting the drivers and then doing a reinstall. That solved the problem and the APKs were able to cross over. Apps work great.

You could have downloaded them directly to your Nexus 7 using Chrome, Dolphin, Opera, or the browser of your choice.

There are two 'Amazon' apps in Google Play. One of them, the one that supports video, is for 'phones' only. The other is for 'tablets' and does not support video.
But you have to install Amazon Appstore in any case, to get the Prime Instant Video app/plugin. Then you can get the Amazon app from there, and it supports tablets. That's what I did to get it working on my Xoom tablet. All the 'Amazon Instant Video' app does is to serve as a plugin and launcher for the 'Amazon' (shopping cart) app. You can launch either app to watch video (or yes, shop for Stuff). I declined to install it on my Android phone. But I'm really not happy with the app at all. As others say, this should just be a single Amazon Video app you get from Google Play, separate from the 'shopping cart' app. It is truly atrocious (hmm, or at least unfortunate) that you have to turn on 'allow unknown sources' to get both the Appstore app and AIV app on your Android device. Of course, you can turn that setting off again after installing these apps, but would have to turn it back on to allow updates. Moreover the overwhelming expectation about any Android media app these days is that it should support ChromeCast. This does not. I don't even know if it supports screen casting to Fire TV. The description does not say. It is as if Amazon customers who happen to have Android devices are the enemy and are to be punished because they should use a Fire or Fire Phone instead for all of this. I have to think they did this by design rather than any expediency. They could simply have offered Amazon Instant Video in Google Play, even if you still needed the Amazon app to play video. But someone whose job it is to promote the Appstore (and or the shopping app) must have insisted on this mess. IMO, it just makes Amazon look incompetent and clueless. I've added my one star review. Hopefully if enough people complain, they'll back off and do this correctly. Last edited by tomsem; 09-10-2014 at 11:52 PM. |

Worked on my Nexus 7 for me Using the Amazon APP store
I had no problem installing the Amazon app and then the Prime video app on my Nexus 7.
I searched for Amazon apps using the Amazon appstore app. There were two Amazon apps found. I installed the one which stated it included support for Amazon Prime movies. It didn't say phone or tablet in the App name. Then I tried to play a Prime movie. A popup came up indicating I had to installed the Prime Video player. I searched for it in the Amazon appstore app and installed it. Now I am watching the Prime movie. Success. |

But I still heartily object to jumping through these hoops. It should require one download from Google Play, and without the Appstore dependency. It's just crazy and treats customers poorly. |

I can think of only one explanation for this mess: Google wouldn't allow the app into Google Play for some reason. It's not because they require a 'cut' a la Apple, because as far as I can tell, they don't.
The alternative, that Amazon is using this as a Trojan Horse to get Amazon Appstore and the Amazon store app onto more Android devices, is also plausible, but seems less likely. In any case, I hope they can work it out. It is bad for customers of both. |
