All O2 can offer me is the new Samsung Galaxy which is less than £100 cheaper than the 6 that will now have 64Gb. That's where Apple have us.

I don't want a 16 'but you can put an SD card in it'.

And by taking out the 32GB that might be part of Apples reasoning.
Get a nexus then
My next phone will be a 32 gigas for sure.

3 things about yesterday:

1. The watch is the same thing as the iPad and the iPhone before it - a blank slate for the user (together with Apple and it's developers) to turn into whatever they want it to be. Smartphones and tablets are very personal, and these things will be too. Here's a quote from The Verge that resonated with me:

Quote:
...while not conventionally attractive, it does achieve one extremely important goal: anonymity. However big it may be, the soft lines of the case seem to almost fade into insignificance, shifting focus to the strap and display. There will be 34 Apple Watch models across three "collections," and thanks to an ingenious design flourish in the form of a proprietary strap system, each looks distinct.
(I don't have an opinion on it's appearance yet - I'd bet seeing it in real life will produce a distinctly different opinion than seeing it in a photo. Anyway, I'm not interested in buying one. Maybe that will change as the market grows and matures.)

2. This is a long game for Apple, and the next generation Apple Watch (and the generation after that, and so on) will likely be as different from this years version as the iPad Air is different from the first iPad Mini is different from the iPad 1. No one in their right mind believes it will be a world changer similar to the smartphone -- but really -- how many devices have or ever will reach that peak??

But I'd bet that it will turn out to be a steady business for them.

Apple has great engineers and crafts a good product, but I think it's business sense is often underrated relative to the technical side of the house. I think that the Mac business shows what Apple could do with just a tiny sliver of the smart watch business:

Quote:
Macs similarly represent only a tiny percentage of the global PC market, with less than 6 percent of the 300 million PCs sold last year having an Apple logo on them.

But those numbers are deceiving. Macs are still enormously profitable, and their high average selling price makes this division a formidable cash cow. In addition, Apple’s product planners have shrewdly targeted the most important segment of the market, the only segment that’s growing and the one that is by far the most profitable.
3. The phones are more of the same. Some people simply prefer Apple to the other phone manufacturers or iOS to Android/Windows Mobile/Blackberry. All Apple has to do is make an iPhone that's more desirable than the one those people have already and they'll upgrade. In my opinion, the smartphone wars are over. Samsung and Apple are the big winners among the hardware manufacturers - and Google and Apple are the big winners in the mobile software space. All have clearly defined areas that they can claim as their own, and I don't think we'll see any dramatic shifts among the three in the short term. Us consumers have excellent hardware to pick from regardless of the mobile OS we like, and both operating systems have a lot of great software to pick from too.

If only you'd known about my OnePlus One invitation before it expired: An unlocked flagship-powered Android phone with 64GB internal for $349.

Link

I offered it to the publisher of a magazine I edit but, ironically, he was waiting for the iPhone 6.

I can't get over the fact that the company that literally invented Retina displays has just come out with two new phones whose ppi is bested by ALL of the new Android phones.

The watch only works with an iPhone. I'm not sure if it is "required" but I think it might be.

Basically, all the current smart watches seem to be remote screen/controllers for your phone.

My understanding is beyond a certain point that you can't see the pixels, it doesn't matter.

Smartphones aren't really about best specs anymore, except among us enthusiasts. They haven't been, for a while. When was the last time Apple had the best specs?

Two different audiences: Apple does what it has to to sell to its and Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola and Nokia/MS do what they have to to sell to theirs.

Yep, I mixed that up on RAM and storage. I know better, but I guess I was tired. At any rate, that article set out from the beginning to be anti-iPhone and pro Samsung. I hate also articles of the opposite persuasion. I owe allegiance to no company. Whenever a fanboy writes a review, you can bet it will be garbage, and that review was garbage.

I'm not especially impressed with the iPhone 6 and 6+ as I don't see a lot of improvement, but hell will freeze over before I buy another Android phone, especially a Samsung Android version which is especially crappy. Why, because of the same reason I haven't bought an American car in over 20 years--they are total crap.

I'm so over the sizes. I just want to see the new apps they come up with to take advantage of them. I hope they finally make some smaller styluses too since they're playing with new nibs.

That and finally have the GM of Yosemite.

We don't need huge specs, we just need better efficiency. When we get better efficiency, it will give us better battery life and performance. The internet isn't THAT heavy that you need 4GB of RAM to even load a webpage.

Eventually serviceable computers and devices are going to come back. But that's not easy to do when you have a bunch of people in China ready to make aftermarket parts. Consumers aren't educated enough to understand that it's not just about warranties, it's about safety standards in this country.

The resolution of the screens (1334 x 750 for the iPhone 6; 1920 x 1080 for the iPhone 6 Plus) is high, although nowhere near the “quad HD” resolution of both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or LG G3. But screen resolution is almost beside the point, since pixel densities these days are beyond the capacity of the human eye to differentiate. The new Retina display is using something called dual-domain pixels that Apple claims increase viewing angle and contrast. We’ll be curious to see how this display stands up to our lab tests, but on first look photos looked very nice, while text popped almost like you’d expect on an e-reader.

The 6 Plus's pixels are so tiny they're hard to see no matter how close you get your face, whereas one can just about make out the ones on the regular iPhone 6 if you look hard enough. Put them both at arm's reach and the difference is imperceptible, so don't let that guide a buying decision.

I looked up the T-Mobile coverage in the area and it shows 2G only, so I might have cellular issues in the house. Heck I had cellular issues in my current home in the Dallas area due to the suckiness that is AT&T. But that cleared up when I switched to T-Mobile 1.5 years ago. I don't want to get a landline, so this voice over LTE (VoLTE) seems like a possibility.
WiFi calling and VoLTE are two separate features, neither of which is specifically an Apple thing as the first one has been around for ages and the latter will start becoming more common on most LTE-enabled carriers as that will eventually allow them to move people off 2g and thus enable them to reuse those frequencies for more data.

It will probably matter to those who like non glare screen protectors. When looking at a white background these screen protectors show a lot of pixelation on lower resolution screens. It's much more obvious on my Nexus 7 2012 than on my Nexus 7 2013.
