I have really tried to learn to love the Kindle. Kind of like trying to love the Bomb.
It does word-Search, which is important to me. It does many other things right. BUT, it has an industrial design only a mother could love. It offends the very core of my design sensibilities. It makes the Pocket Ruler look "oh, so hip." Sorry, Bezos Man. It's like going to bed with you. It's just a NO GO. I just had to say this. Sorry. |

Hmmm, let's see..., there is usually a glass of wine, I hold it gently, caress it with my thumb periodically, and don't take my eyes off it for the whole evening..., what do you call that?

The newer screen on the Kindle/505 is definitely an improvement over that on the 500. |

Do you own a Kindle? While it might offend my fashion sensibilities (if I had any), I came to truly appreciate much of the design from a functional aspect once I started using it. It really is easy to hold and use with one hand.
The only change I would've made is putting the on/off and wireless switches up front and moving the SD card and reset hole so you didn't need to remove the back cover (and making the battery cover smaller and better seated). But none of this bothers me while looking at the Kindle ![]() |

I am one that loves the design of the page turn keys when reading so wouldn't want them to change. If the on/off switch were up front, I would use that instead of the two handed motion required to put my Kindle in sleep mode when I get interrupted or have to move (I'm travel on a train and bus)....that's when I most find myself accidentally turning pages. I read one handed, so a switch is easier than pressing two keys. I recently had my Kindle start freezing up..resetting daily. I called Amazon and ended up having to move everything to an SD card and reformatting (which appeared to cure it). Not that I need to often but taking the back cover on/off and the placement of the page keys (which kept clicking as I did it) makes it a very clumsy and awkward process...and the Kindle felt fragile doing it..not to mention, I wondered how often I could do it before having the loose back cover issues that some have reported. Anyway, what could've been just a nuisance process was a a real PITA. Having had to do it several times, I just didn't like it at all and made me think it could've been designed better.
