I rarely look at that list. I use big fonts (not a phone) and I think it would look best with the series info on its own line too. We need to hear from phone users.

If I make it always a separate line then I can change the "max authors characters" to max lines. This has appeal because the display changes as orientation changes, making a number of characters less than optimal.

I could make it an option defaulting to "with second line" and allowing "on own line". Setting a value for max authors lines would force the option of moving it to a separate line.

Have you noticed that if you sort by author then the title and author lines are interchanged? That adds a bit of complexity to "under the title", because the title moves.

As an aside: it is interesting how people approach looking at information. For example, I never use the cover grid. Several of you have said you never use the book list. Clearly we have different ways of absorbing the information. Brains are odd things...

Well, in my family, all the women are 5'1" and all the men are 5'7", so in my family you would be a giant.

Lets see what Purple Lady thinks about moving the series. If you look at her screen shot, you can see that she doesn't have the lines to spare.

Yes, indeed. My brain responds best to colour and the Cover view most of the time. I definitely 'recall' books by their cover. When needing at-a-glance Series or Published date info I do make a temporary switch to List View.

I had seen this during testing, but I had forgotten. In real use, I only sort by Title, Series, Custom Columns, and Dates.

Having said that, I still think under the title makes sense. So its either

Title
Series
Author

Or

Author
Title
Series

By the way, it would be nice to have an option to suppress the Sort key line when doing a sort. I never care what the date is when sorting by date (I just care about the order), and when sorting by a custom column, the information used to create the custom column (title and series) is already there. I wouldn't want the title, series and author suppressed, but definitely the other ones.

I use the cover grid for two things, both aesthetic.

1) I have a tag called _Favorites which contains the 116 books I have loved the most from when I became a reader as a kid to now. I spent a few hours one day going through all of the ebook files and replacing the covers with the version that I had when I read the book. Sometimes I just like to browse through the cover grid. Its a walk down memory lane.

3) Sometimes when I am reading a series with matching covers, I like to see the progression of covers as I finish one book and move to the next one.

But, for choosing the next book to read, its almost exclusively list view.

I'd prefer the series on a separate line too. On a phone for me nothing fits on a single line anyway and I always thought it was weird to be on the same line as the author. I normally read on my tablet so I do have lines to spare there.

So its official. Chaley, you have at least one example of small, medium and large font people (all on phones) who would prefer to have the series on a separate line.

Right now I use series sort for series, Authors Works for title (a custom column that mixes title and series), and title for everything else. I looked at this and I am going to say "no". The change would percolate through a lot of CC because it creates a group that isn't a group. I would need to special case almost every operation in the grouping drawer to check whether this "odd" group is involved. Sorry ...

1) Will this sort be triggered when you go to a grouping that doesn't have an auto-sort?

2) Will this sort be triggered if you hit the back button while looking at a grouping of books. Or, two backs if you are deeper into the group? IE, will this sort be triggered whenever you get to a state when the grouping bar says "No grouping"?

3) Will this sort be triggered when you launch the app?

If the answer to all three questions is yes, then I suggest you call it "Default Sort" and change the text for the "Auto-sort when choosing a group" to:

Tap here to choose a sort to automatically apply when a group is selected. This will override the Default sort.

No

Yes.

Yes, as long as there isn't a current remembered subgroup, which can happen if CC is restarted after being killed by Android while in the background.

Just so you know, I have auto-sorts in all of my groups, so what you are implementing is - as usual - exactly what I wanted.

On a related note, now that you have teased us in the other thread, when are you going to release the alpha version? I am very excited to start playing with it.

I would also like to see an Auto-sort when no group is chosen. I removed an auto sort from one grouping because I always had to change it when I was done looking at that grouping, and I also realized I didn't need that auto sort anyway.

So how are the kittens doing?
