I do! Recommend it, that is. Also the first one, Cordelia's honor. There's less involved there, but it helps to have the character's histories.

I've gone back to Mission of Honor, from the Honor Harrington series.
What a stark change. I love the Honor character more than I love Miles, but boy o boy...Lois is so much better a writer than Dan. |

It's DAVID Weber. And strangely enough, in the past he has said himself that he admires Lois' writing.

Been having a longer commute lately and started a re-listen to "Barrayar". A fun combination of good writing and a great reader. Grover Gardner does most(all?) the Bujold novels on Audible and manages create voices for all the characters that work for the story.
Just purchased "Mirror Dance" as my next audio book and just finishing "Brothers in Arms" on the Kindle. |

I don't care if this thread is old .... it's PERTINENT, darn it!
After a several year hiatus, I picked up where I left off (character chronologically) and read Miles Errant this weekend. Re-read "Borders of Infinity" (which was my first taste in the series and what got me HOOKED) on Friday, "Brothers in Arms" on Saturday, "Mirror Dance" Saturday and Sunday .... rapidly! ..... and then reread the second half of "Mirror Dance" on Monday. Ahhhhh --- what a great weekend!!! Now I'm in "Memory" and am totally immersed again. WHAT A GREAT WRITER!! ![]() Sorry, I had to talk about it .... and nobody around me seems to have read Bujold. I'm pushing it, but they're all stubborn! I needed to find people who would understand me! Ivan Vorpatril's book just dropped in price a tad, late in August, which is what drew my attention to the fact that I needed to jump into this world again. What a ride! |

I've stalled at Labyrinth - this is a good reminder to get back to it, thanks!

I can never quite remember which is which, but I think Mirror Dance was my favourite first time through.

OK, I had stopped at least 4 years ago with "The Vor Game" up next, following the Internal Chronology reading order. I've just checked it out from a library. I remember loving the Miles character but I got a bit tired of the series. I guess it's time to get back into it.

I had to admit I stopped reading it after a while too. I first read Mountains of Mourning I think, which was really beautiful, but then going back to the beginning of the series was a bit of a disappointment. It was fun to read but yes, less mature, and Miles' hyperactivity was a bit exhausting
![]() Guess I should take it up again some day. Last edited by FlorenceArt; 09-11-2014 at 07:24 AM. Reason: smiley fixed |

This is always one of my favourite series, primarily because the author was smart enough to not keep repeating the same formula over and over and over. Miles matures. His situation changes, his behaviour matures, and the characters around him get bigger roles as well. Unfortunately, I'm not at all sure the Ms. Bujold is going to write any more Miles stories, though I'd love to be proved wrong.

I loved her books and plan to re-read them at some point. As I recall, each book I read became my new favorite, especially since they're not formulaic. As for Miles, his hyperactivity had me in stitches a good part of the time; Ms. Bujold has a good sense of humor, and she seemed to have some fun with him. Her character development is full and robust -- no cardboard characters for her!
