Agatha Christie Novels $0.99 (Kobo Canada) - Page 2

Anybody know if any of these are public domain? Coulda swore I saw Mysterious Affair at Styles over on Gutenburg. But I haven't been there in awhile. Also turned up a site called epubbooks(dot)com. Legal or not? I'm in Canada, if that helps calculate the PD time rules.

In the US, under their convoluted old rules which have since been changed (for the worse, IMHO), AMAAStyles and The Secret Adversary fell into PD. Those were the only two that qualified.

In Canada, we're still Life+50, so technically none of Christie's stuff is PD* for us.

* At least not for another 12 years. Then we get it all†. Except for the posthumously-published stuff.

† As long as our own rules don't change for the worse.

Kobo originally offered me Styles and Secret Adversary for free, even though they aren't out of copyright here in the UK. They were the first Christie books I'd read, and I enjoyed them enough to collect the whole set (albeit mostly in used pb, which still doesn't give HarperCollins any money). I'd probably never have read any of her work if they hadn't made that mistake.

Anyway, I was going to say that I'd made a spreadsheet of how the Complete Stories collections map to the original (UK) canon, which is here. I don't know how much use it is in Canada, or even if the contents are exactly the same, but I've been using it to track my reading.

Finally made the plunge for this today, as the sale is still going (and I didn't want to risk it being over after Sunday).

In retrospect, maybe it wasn't that bright an idea to try and checkout all 79 of the ones I settled on at once, since Kobo seemed to choke in the middle of processing and then gave me an error message and told me to check my payment method.

On the other hand, it does look like all the books are slowly trickling into my library.

We'll see if some sort of receipt shows up tomorrow, or they get removed and I have to do it again, or whatever.

ETA: Oh, yay, I do have an official receipt now. Okay, now to hope that my cashback rebate for this via GCR goes through.

Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories has finally dropped to 99 cents.

Rest of the sale still seems to be on-going (except for a couple of the Poirots which have gone back up in price).

that the archaeological memoir and maybe also the book of travel correspondence might also drop before the sale ends.

This was the one I was missing. I now have all of Miss Marple books. Yay!!!
