But its price keeps it too far away from the public.

For a eink virtually full page (about 14" would be 100%) pdf reader that allows taking notes with a stylus. A niche market, but a significantly large one enough to matter.

I just called the Sony USA support.

It's not possible to send it to another country than the USA but the support guy hinted that Sony UK might help me to order it from the UK to Germany. So they either have access to the Sony DPTS1 or are planning to sell it in the UK as well.

It might be worth a try to call Sony UK for further information.

When I graduated from university over 20 years ago, you could buy a laptop for about $5000. If $1100 is something that only the rich can afford today, we've come down a long way since then. Maybe so, but let's consider the big picture it that's the case.

So you also admit Sony DPT S1 is overpriced. In your opinion, over 5 times pricey. This eink should be around $200, even much less.

Why did Sony open this reader to the public? Because no sale! Its over pricey prisons itself from sale. No one is too stupid to pay such unbelievable price, no matter how rich he or she is. It doesn't matter about rich or poor, but about Sony's outrageous pricing policy. Sony wants to suck college students and professionals as much as it can.

Welcome to Mobileread.

You're new here, so you might not be aware of how our community works.

I'm going to tell you right now, so there will be no issues in the future:

Mobileread's members respect the choices of other members, especially those members who choose to buy a reading device that you or I might not purchase.

A handful of members have already purchased this Sony reader. Using a phrase such as "No one is too stupid to pay such [sic] unbelievable price," shows a lack of sensitivity toward those handful of Mobileread members who (I would guess) are quite intelligent when it comes to making decisions.

Please feel free to post your ideas and thoughts in a respectful manner. We hope you have fun.

I think we are a little spoiled. I was a special education student and my school had a long and hard discussion about whether to get an apple II computer that would be used mostly by me. I think it was around $2500.

It did come with about ten pounds of manual, which I had fun reading.

I think you are too sensitive and fragile. It's not me but Sony treats us like fools to ask $1100 for a simple ereader. I also purchased this ereader, but I think Sony fooled me. Don't be that sensitive, if you are a man. No one wants to pay inflated price for an unfinished and function-limited product.

If even your SCHOOL wants to buy that product, it's still under long and hard discussion. Why? Because the hard price puts your school in hard situation. Moreover, that price is to a school purchase, not an individual. But this Sony ereader aims to college students. Because it's out for sale, it's already in college use for producing preparation. But when it came out, its price pushed away nearly 99% students. How ridiculous it is.
