Sigh. Between the 75% off coupons (only used five of them though!) and the above average amount of need-to-have-now preorders + discovering a new-to-me series and instantly reading the first two books in a row, August was not a good month for me as far as curbing my book-buying went.
16 books for nearly $60 total, ranging from $0.99 to $9.98. At least I also read five of them already, which were also the five most expensive ones (including all three pre-ordered ones). Considering I've now bought 119 ebooks for myself this year, I don't think there's much chance of keeping to my stated goal of "no more than 120", what with four months still ahead. Ah well. |

If I can stick to my plans for September, I'll actually start October under budget for the first time this year since January. |

It really is difficult.
I think I'll set 150 for the entire year as my new goal. No more than 30 new books in the four months ahead - that should be an attainable goal. |

Three subscriptions came in today. That makes 250 ebooks I've bought this year, around 100 more than I've read.
The cost of my new books ($387.58) is almost exactly how much the books I've read this year cost me ($371.24). It seems I am getting more books for my money, but I'm still buying lots of books. |

Oh boy... I went overboard last month.
![]() I spent at least* ~$63 on 47 books/51 titles. O_O The past few months, I've actually been pretty good. Guess it was overdue. *I was itemizing and adding it all up only to realize that I had skipped at least 2 titles. ![]() |

As I continue to try to regulate my buying, I find it is limiting the purchases to books I really want that's the tricky bit. It's so easy to be tempted by a good bargain on merely 'interesting looking' books. |

I was able to use nine 75% coupons -- which is pretty impressive, since I didn't get anything better than 30% from Kobo (and most were 10%).
Four of these were collections of Fred Saberhagen's Berserker stories. I read a few when they were first published in If and Worlds of Tomorrow, back in the 60s, but I missed a lot. It'll be fun to reread some stories from my teens, and fill in some of the blanks. |

I very much like his Dracula stuff...at least, the first three books, the movie novelization, and a few of the rest of his series. The quality gets a bit uneven in some of the later books, IMO.
Didn't stop me from scooping the first nine up at Kobo at 75% off, though, despite the horrible new covers. Don't get me wrong; I love it when authors (or, in this case, their estates) get the rights back and reprint older works as ebooks - but sometimes, the covers are so bad that I start to wonder if they're pirated editions. When that's the case, the cover is really Not Good Enough. The Holmes-Dracula File is a prime example; what on earth is a bland street map doing as the cover of an awesome book about Dracula meeting Sherlock Holmes?!? It's enough to tempt someone to prowl Google Images for the old cover art... |

I only noticed that I made the error because one of my definite wishlist books was missing. When I went into my receipts, I realized there was (at least) one other I missed. ^^;
Rough estimate: 17 definite wishlist items, 5 highly recommended great deals, and the rest were part of bundles (which had some wishlist items mixed in). A combination of buying 3 (or 2.5) bundles and using 13 75% codes definitely made a huge difference from previous months. ------------------------- I am completely kicking myself for a purchase made last night. It was a wishlist book and I was able to use a 75% coupon to knock the price down (it was a $10 book). Since the coupons are due to expire at some point, I decided to just put it on credit because I have the money coming in so payment will not be an issue. Only to find out that I was given a "$10 back on purchase".... I spent like $2.50 and now that credit is gone --- I could have gotten MORE couponable wishlist books for FREE! ![]() ---I don't regret the purchase, I just wished I'd realized that I qualified for the "$10 back". (I thought I didn't.) I did double check and it's gone. There were definitely a few more books I could have added. ![]() That makes a total of 14 75% coupons used this last contest! That makes me think of the Fictionwise 100% Micropay rebate on CC purchases.

Up to 16 books on the year bought, but only $21.89 out of pocket, an average of $1.37 (or, if you count my Kindle settlement credit, 16 books for $43.89, an average of $2.74).
Still, I am failing on the ultimate goal - reading. So, a bad year, thus far. |

I may do better this month. So far, all I've bought was a preorder (under $6) and used an already paid for Audible credit. Audible has a special for 'first of the series' for $4.95, but only one or two are of any interest. So, unless there is a good 75% off coupon item, I think I can get by this month and drop that overage I've had down a lot. I am going to join the new Unlimited Program after I finish the two current long books that I'm on. Mostly I'm looking to get the 3 audible credits for less than I usually pay.
