I didn't get anything better than a 30% off coupon in this contest, so I'd like to send a great big to everyone who shared the big codes--and to whoever first discovered that more than one person could use them! Now I'm off...if you need me, I'll be doing this until the next contest...

Thank you to all who shared! I pared down my Wishlist some. Didn't get much this time out, nothing big enough to share, but maybe next time!

One time use only.

Another first-time poster here with a couple of codes to share:

75% 2SGPYF
55% 88GUXZ C5M8CE
45% BV8RYC

Thank you everyone for the codes you've shared this week -- I've managed to put a number of them to good use already! I'm amazed that Kobo is allowing the contest codes to be used by multiple accounts this time around and would love to know whether they did it by accident or by design.

So I just tried one of the 75% codes on a computer book, and it didn't go through, so for the fun of it I tried perkopolis, and it applied the discount. Tried another 75% code, and that one worked. So maybe perkopolis isn't dead in Canada yet.

All well and good having 15 x 75% codes if they were stil working in countries other than the US UK and CA. And if in those countries there were no publisher restrictions.

I've already started buying books from Amazon - they are usually cheaper than Kobo (unless you use a coupon).

Kobo's financial loss.

I do understand how frustrating that must be for those not in the US/UK/CA.

OTOH, for those of us living in those countries (or travelling) it's quite astonishing to have so many.

Paul I have been travellin to the UK US and CA but can't use the codes because of the publisher restrctions.

That's why travelling and using the Contest codes was Kobo's competitive advantage. They've lost that.

I think it's the pub restrictions giving her the most trouble, not the codes because the traveling allowed people to buy books that probably weren't supposed to be eligible for coupons. And I am pretty sure those books working with coupons in any country was a loophole just based on the way the commissions/splits/georestrictions work. So really, it was a bit of luck it worked that way for as long as it did. I don't expect that to come back. And with large codes used on any major publisher, Koboa was likely losing money anyway on those sales so even if it wasn't a mistake...I kind of doubt there is incentive to bring it back.

In fact, for most of these codes, they are likely losing some money, but it is a draw and it does give them advertisement (this thread for example, my blog and other blogs that talk about the contest, etc).

Oddly the contest is not one that they include in their associates advertising (in other words, it's not one that they tell us associates about.) I found out about it here and then began blogging it. It's a fairly popular feature at my blog, usually for the first few days as people get some decent codes and buy the 1 or 2 books they have on their list. I'm fairly certain that at least one blog follower learned about kobo and bought a mini because I was blogging about the contest. I've blogged about kobo before, but it wasn't until the trivia/coupons that some people took notice of the actual site and machine and started asking me questions.

FWIW. I've blogged a long time about various machines/retailers and the trivia is a popular feature and I do think it generated interest in the company.

It's really unfair. I've bought all my books from Kobo with a discount and I only read books in the English language anyway.

If I can no longer use discount codes I will have to go somewhere else.

The Kobo website is now very annoying, they always show Dutch books to me even if they can know I only read English. If I search for a book in English it is not shown even until I look for the author and then select English as language.

Their search engine has been messed up lately--it's not just Dutch. If I search for author Rachel Aaron, I get her trad published books and can't see Nice Dragons Finish Last (one she self-pubbed). This has happened to me with a number of authors. I have a hard time getting them to show up unless I know the exact title. It only started happening in the last month or so. Granted, it is probably worse for you, but I've noticed that with authors who are translated I usually get ONE set of their books--and sometimes that is NOT English. I *know* they have the English version, but I have to hunt for it.
