Indian users, how and where do you purchase ebooks?

I was very happy with my ads-free Kindle Basic purchase, but it was not declared upfront by Amazon India that it's Kindle ebook store does not yet support the CVV and Secure password authentication which is necessary to use Indian credit and debit cards. If anyone knows of a surefire way to purchase from the Kindle store, I would be glad to know. I sent an email to customer care, but they acknowledged that the store does not yet support Indian cards properly and that it does make my Kindle next to useless but gave no clue if there's a way to buy. I'm very unhappy with Amazon for this, especially since I didn't find on their product page this lack of support.

So I want to know, Indian users, how and where do you purchase ebooks that work perfectly with Kindle. Do you use an alternative store? I need books like "Fabric of the Cosmos" by Green which is for example very heavily discounted down to 4$, 262Rs, on the Kindle store. I hope there are ebook stores that I can buy from for comparable prices. Or if you shop from Kindle store, please let me know how you do it. (I generally use an HDFC mastercard credit or Allahabad Debit here in Kolkata, India, but without the CVV, I suspect that there's no way to do it. If there's another card that does work, please let me know, so that I can look into getting one.) Thanks.

Is there anywhere that you can buy Kindle gift cards, maybe? If you can buy a gift card and then apply it to your account that should work.

I read, but I'm not sure, that gift cards are not applicable for Indian customers. I hope someone can help because I'm at the end of my wits. I tried searching for kindle-compatible mobi e-book stores and e-book stores that accept Indian credit cards, but was not able to find much info on Google. Does anyone know what I can do? I'll probably keep the Kindle for free ebooks, but I do need it to work for paid ebooks, very angry at amazon.

Where did you read this? On the Amazon site somewhere? I don't understand why a gift card wouldn't work?

Sorry, it says that for payment in local currency:
"Which payment methods are supported?
We currently offer Amazon Currency Converter when you use either Visa or MasterCard.
Payment can include promotional offers or discounts, but cannot include Gift Cards."

But seems that an Amazon.com gift card might work, but I have no idea about obtaining such a gift card.

There seemed to be nowhere mentioned on Amazon India or the Kindle Amazon.com webstore that a Indian Mastercard credit card, such as I have, will not be accepted. So I wonder what the problem is? If it was indeed because of the CVV and password, like people complained about on their Help forum, then one would think they'd have mentioned it on their offical pages. I will contact Amazon's customer care once more as to why my card is being rejected.

Wanted to update. The issue was actually due to Indian government's new rules regarding CVC, something about opt-in for international transactions, I contacted my bank today and they enabled international use instantly, and now I can thankfully buy books.
