Since I doubt that an ereader/cell phone combo is going to be coming anytime soon, I'll have my cell phone for the videos, web browsing, email, etc. Or perhaps one of my tablet collection for when I want the larger display. And gentle hint: only add the video identifier portion of a Youtube URL to get a video that will play. removed youtube video link as original poster fixed their link Last edited by DNSB; 08-25-2014 at 12:29 AM. Yes I agree. I want one but from WHSmith in the UK and from my local store so hopefully it's going to be something I can use my Christmas present money on.

Do you waterproof any products other than what you sell on your website? Not currently, but we are always open to new ideas and suggestions on which devices to waterproof. So for ebook readers it's only a Kindle Paperwhite. |

I prefer some additional flexibility that allows installing other reading applications and I'm aware there are other ways to do this on current Kobo hardware. Android isn't worse than Qt on a ereading device both need to be optimized for the hardware they are running on. Many ODM/OEM manufacturers have ereader reference designs for both OS. |

I suspect you meant Android vs. Linux. QT is a cross-platform framework that allows development of GUI applications -- command line also but not as commonly seen. Example that many here would be familiar with is Calibre where using QT allowed Windows/Linux/MacOSX implementations without a massive rewrite for each platform. In theory, Calibre could also be ported to Android using the QT Android implementation. If you look at the Kobo firmware package, it seems to have 3 QT implementations (QT 5.2.1 in it's own directory plus QT 4.6.2 and QT 4.8.0 in the Trolltech directory --Trolltech being the original producers of QT). So the H2O will have extra protection against nasty ol water & dust but will (supposedly) be lighter and thinner than the HD? Nice! It sorta looks like the back of the H2O has a similar back grip like the Aura. Again, nice!
If the new screen proves to be as good as or better than the HD I'll have no choice...no choice whatsoever than to buy one. |

Personally I consider a waterproof reader interesting in the sense that if I am reading outside and it starts to rain, I won't have to worry about it getting damaged. But I would probably never sink my reader underwater. What for ?
It's not like you can read underwater anyways. |

I sometimes read over 200ft+ deep water. I wonder if there is a way to attach a lanyard to this device.

But will it have pinpricks? I sent my Aura back because it had some. I'm now waiting to see what these new models will be like.
There's no point having all this water and dust proof if the thing has pinpricks. This issue is a blight on ereaders. It's a lottery, you never know if yours will have them. Which is not good enough imo. Kobo, Amazon etc. need to do more to end this problem. |
