Edited to add: just noticed the link Katsunami posted reporting the expected specs of the H2O--indeed very similar, but with the improvements of waterproofing and a capacitive screen. Although, I have to say, I don't mind the infrared touch screen. Last edited by dordale; 08-23-2014 at 08:02 PM. |

In other rumors, it's also stated that the H20 will be thinner and has dropped the weird back. It's said that the H20 will have a normal back, with sloped sides.
![]() If Kobo also fixes those *** space-wasting header and footer, and there's a case like the one I have for my Kindle (a slide-in one, which covers the bezels and has NO metal parts or clips or anything), then I might consider this reader. Last edited by Katsunami; 08-23-2014 at 08:18 PM. |

Not sure anyone thinks the possible new Kobo Aura H20 is the Holy Grail, but there are some things Kobo do better than Amazon (and vice versa), and if the slightly bigger screen interests you, bugs and all the Aura HD is a reasonable option?

I agree with this--I've had a PW2 for about a year; and really like it. My husband bought me an Aura HD as a birthday present and I really like it. I find both the screens very similar. I haven't run into any show stopping bugs on the Aura HD yet--but to be fair I've only been using it for a couple of weeks. I do like the font/margin/line spacing customization options the Kobo offers--much better than the KPW--including the option to add your own fonts. I do agree that the Kobo wastes space with the top and bottom margins, but the Kindle wastes space by not letting you set narrower side margins. I like the bigger screen on the Kobo, I like the lighter weight smaller overall size of the PW. If I had to choose just one device right now, I really don't know which I'd choose.

Well I want a new PW3 3G and the new Kobo Aura H20. I'll sell two PW1s wifi and a Kobo Aura so only time will tell if I get what I want and if I can sell the three.
That's my Christmas list sorted lol |

Yup--a cross between my Kindle PW2 and my Kobo Aura HD would be my perfect reader.

The Kindle reading app has Georgia and Lucida and Droid serif, which makes me wonder why they didn't include them on the PW as well. Not that I'm crazy about these 3 but it would provide some nice variety, and are better choices than those other three.... Right now there's only 3 fonts on the KPW I use: Baskerville, Palatino, and Caecillia. I get bored with these pretty quick. I don't consider the other 3 "choices" at all. I do not like sans-serif fonts for reading, and that Caecillia condensed is awful. Charis seems a no-brainer, because most books with publisher fonts come with it, only it displays awful, like a printer low on ink. Minion too, is one I see a lot in books as publisher fonts but it displays just like Charis. Times New Roman would be nice--it's one of the most-used fonts in books--and it boggles the mind as to why they didn't include it! Surely these geeks are smart enough to darken and customize the font so it displays nicely (like some users on here have already done). Also Garamond, which I love--both of these come with Windows. Maybe that font that's commonly used in those Tall-paperbacks, though I'm not sure what it is. Or Caslon Book, or Sabon, or Plantin. If they added those fonts I mentioned above, I'd be thrilled. They should let us vote on a bunch of fonts, and those with the most votes get added. C'mon Amazon! Course, if they brought back the simple USE_ALT_FONTS hack I wouldn't care much about new fonts they add. I did hear they're customizing a new font for the new PW.... |

Nah... It's not like Amazon to miss a holiday opportunity (which only comes once a year). They're a business after all, and Kobo is going to eat their lunch with the improved Aura HD (the "H2O") if they don't step up.
