If anyone hasn't used it yet some of the deal sites are showing sav50 (50% off one time use) as still good until 8/25/14 (or 9/6/14 depending where you look).

I'm now very glad I got most of my Baen backlog wishlist using codes from last month's contest.

But we've had contests with terrible distribution before. Perhaps the next one will be better.

Paul it's not just the terrible distribution .... the Contest codes only work in the country that the Contest was played in, from what I've observed.

For example, I won a Contest code in the UK Contest, and that code does not work in Aus or India, or the US. Whereas perkopolis works against the books in each of those countries.

That's what's changed.

Maybe Kobo doesn't really want people to play the Contests in the first place.

Think about it, if a person enters one account in the Contest and then they win 10 different prize codes and have to choose from a very limited supply of books and none of the books interest them then what's the point of the Contest.

I think Kobo is shooting itself in the foot with such a restrictive list of choices.
Okay the above stuff I wrote re the fixed links is wrong!! As another poster said, they're just helpful links or whatever it is that Kobo had in mind.

RE the chat on the number of games that were played being a contributing factor to Kobo's latest Contest changes, I don't agree.

Even if there were say 2,000 extra games played by people from this Forum alone, then that should still be a drop in the ocean to the numbers of people that Kobo would expect to play the Contest across GB, USA and Canada.

It was Kobo that decided on 75% codes and the distribution rates overall, not the customers.

Kobo gained a lot of sales from the code's that it distributed and it could have, and did, change the distribution levels with each new monthly Contest.

Perhaps publishers forced Kobo to strictly adhere to the terms and conditions of the contest?

Yeah, I don't mind Kobo rearranges the distribution ratio (even 45% off becomes a precious code), but to forbid us non-Can/US/UK users from using the codes altogether? I don't see how it will benefit Kobo by much.

I'm trying to be sanguine about this turn of events. I look at my database of books to get and remind myself that I originally came up with this list for if/when another big multi-use code came along. Last month, the first time I really went to town buying books with the codes I got or received, was an aberration.

So really, I shouldn't be upset that they've changed the rules. I think I'm more upset about not letting me use the codes when I go traveling than I am about the distribution ratio.

Just to be clear, the codes can be applied to all promo-eligible books in the US, UK and Canada stores, or only to specific books in these stores on a fixed link ?
They seem to work on any promo eligible book, which is why that list doesn't make much sense. Maybe they just want to market some books for each contest. Who knows?

That makes a lot of sense. The georestrictions are publisher choice, not Kobo choice.

This contest is definitely being stingy. Tried 8 times in the last 2 days and I haven't got anything over 30%. I guess I could sign up with yet another email and try again, but what's the point?

I don't suppose it will help to tell you I haven't won an e-reader yet...I think I have a 35 percent. I am pretty sure I already used the save50.

Paypal works for sure. And not only when I did virtual travelling. It worked while I was - physically - in Moscow. I don't see why credit cards shouldn't.

I got a 35% off and my daughter 30% off today.

LOL I don't need an e-reader, but a 65% off coupon would be nice. Heck, even a 45% one. I used the save50 one as well a long time ago.
