I received my Sony reader today and was looking up programs that convert PDF files to LRF or even RTF. Guess how many useful programs I found for a noober like myself? NONE. Then I stumbled upon the multi-step process outlined in a different thread...... multi-step. Finally, I stumbled upon this thread and the PFRLRF program. Converted my first file, loaded it unto the PRS-505 and BAM!, worked like a charm. Now, I'm sure it's not perfect and there are some bugs in it but it's simple and effective. Looky here, it actually helps folks. Whadya know. So far, so good with the program. I'd throw the guy some greenbacks for this program. ![]() As others have said, the argument for removing this piece of software from the forum borders on petty. Do people realize just how many minor copyright violations are present at any one time? I could understand if this guy was making a profit from this but he wasn't. I understand that he may have used open source code yet does not want/hasn't released his code but the program is FREE. He's not profiting from it, at least, monetarily. In the case of GPL, it does not really matter whether the programmer is profiting or not. It's a matter of honoring the copyright to those people who were involved in programming the underlying code and libraries. Some people hate GPL for it, saying its viral character has a damaging effect on the industry. Be that as it may, this problem could quickly be solved with the release of the pdflrfwin source code. |

Which brings me to the second answer. The link to download PDFLRF was removed due to copyright violations. There are other tools like PDFRead that is very nice. Also a new tool https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31677 that is showing some real promise If you are still inclined to finding PDFLRF google it you should find it archived out in the net somewhere =X= |

I love PDFLRF and I'm very disappointed a busybody felt the need to restrict access to it. Personally, I think the spirit of open source is to encourage development of free software. If someone releases a program that doesn't abide by the license agreement, just don't use the program. That the offending program is available to others doesn't cause you any harm so live and let live.

Anyway, I'll be seeding the PDFLRF torrent indefinitely so head over to the Pirate Bay if you want a copy. |
