but if I'm using a tablet, late & night, & have forgotten the credentials for some site or other, it's handy to have an accessible clue in dropbox, rather that have to turn the main PC on to find the answer, just so that i can teach the login to the tablet browser.... I also use dropbox as a regular backup for all of my Outlook2007 stuff - calendar, contacs, meessages, email account setup details...in case the PC ever dies on me |

LastPass has an app too...
Or you could try installing the browser plugin for Firefox in Desktop mode. The whole point of LastPass is to consolidate password management, why would you break that with your tablet? ![]() (Lastpass Rocks! Proud user and proselytizer. ![]() |

lastpass: 1. because the free version is insufficient for tablets, I'd have to buy premium which is otherwise unnecessary and I don't buy software that has to be re-bought every year. 2. because I don't want ALL passwords on the tablets. e.g. I don't want any banking / credit card related stuff on there at all. 3. lastpass knows my credit card numbers, for ease of shopping, but I don't shop from the Kindle unless it's at amazon, & I've password protected against any accidental or rash 1-click purchases. 4. I don't want all my (password) eggs in one (software) basket. Last pass is pretty good but if one day they go bust, or alzheimers kicks in sufficiently to wipe that one unforgettable & not written down master password from my head! , I don't want to be scrabbling around resetting passwords. So: 2 browsers (IE & Chrome) , 2 password programs (last pass & roboform) , and some stuff in dropbox I don't have everything in both browsers but I do like redundancy ![]() I mostly have what logins I need set up on tablets now, anyway: Where I've been inconvenienced is times like the 1st time I decided to log into to these forums from tablet then realised that the PC knows the login codes but I've forgotten them ![]() Last edited by cybmole; 08-15-2014 at 02:00 PM. |

Actually the free version is quite adequate. THe main thing to do is to have it copy the userid / password to the Android notification area, then select them from there and you can manually paste into the fields in the apps.

How do you password protect against any accidental or rash 1-click purchases? I hate that 1-click allows purchases with no password. I would buy more digital stuff at Amazon if I could do that.

An alternative to LastPass would be Keepass. It is open source and available on all platforms. By the way, you can export your passwords in both programs and you can print them.
And I don't really understand why you are uncomfortable to have all passwords encrypted on your tablet, but no problem to have them plainly visible in your dropbox? If your tablet gets stolen, it is much more easy to get access to dropbox than to the encrypted passwords. And what happens if dropbox is hacked? Last edited by dickloraine; 08-15-2014 at 08:01 PM. |

i don't keep all passwords in dropbox, just ones for sites like this.and usually, dropbox has only a personal hint, - enough for me to guess the rest, but no help to you!
'twould not be the end of the world if they were hacked. & the tablet never leaves the house anyway. If it were ever lost I would quickly change my dropbox password! Dropbox for me is mostly a convenient way of moving stuff between PCs & tablets + a backup for small but important files like epubs, game saves I'ts mostly a convenience thing actually, on the main PC I use chrome for almost everything, but there's no way to sync my chrome bookmarks , extensions etc with the Kindle Fire - I can sideload chrome OK but it cannot see google servers for synching. & as I've said before I don't want to buy last pass premium on an annual subscription just so that it will work on a tablet. is Keepass free for all devices ? To stop one click purchases on kindle fire use parental controls, within settings. that's not the most intuitive location but that where you need to go - you can also either completely disable in -app purchases , or require a password each time. so with my settings, I am prompted for a password if I buy a paid app, or shop at store, but not if it's a few one. Its a vital feature if you use amazon video, I spent £15 by mistake on day 1 just trying to figure out the amazon prime UI & had to phone to get it back. they deliberately? make it hard to spot rent vs buy & free on prime vs need to pay |

Yes. Furthermore it is open source so people can look at it to see whether it is being slimy. I have looked at the source, but I haven't gone to the point of building my own executable.
On Windows 7 and 8.1, KeePass's autopaste with everything I have tried it with, including Chrome, Firefox, Thunderbird, Quicken and SSH Terminal. On Android it puts "copy username" and "copy password" buttons into the notification bar, permitting you to paste this information into apps. I sync the encrypted password file through dropbox. You can set it up to self-lock (require its password) after a time period, after a device sleep, or every time you minimize it. It can also autoclear the clipboard after N seconds. |

Getting back to the original subject; my preference would be option #2 but then I have lots of memory available. But agree that could just as easily import my library into CC right now.
Guess my question is which "Cloud" services you'd choose? You're not going to keep everyone happy. |

I would prefer #2, really, because if would help me to update the CC db if I have changed my library but not updated it.
