Thanks for the heads-up. I shop in India all the time but I am really frustrated by the fact that I have to buy books individually when I want to use any of the unlimited codes like PERKOPOLIS. The cart option only allows one use of any particular code. The same thing happens when I shop the Canada store. Makes me think twice about how badly I want a book - but given the length of my TBR list that is probably not a bad thing!

With my weird £1:$1.15 accounting method, I count that at $3.34 each. Not too bad, but a lot above my average for the year of $1.49/book! Last edited by pdurrant; 08-15-2014 at 05:03 PM. |

There are some fantastic savings to be made on books at the moment on publishers such as Bello, Pan McMillan and HMSO ..... but .... there are so many authors and so many books that I become overwhelmed trying to work out which books, if any, are 'right' for me.
![]() I don't just buy any author (if they're new to me) or book, I find out what I can about them via Goodreads or wherever, and that takes time when there are pages and pages of bargain goodies to look through. Anyone else overwhlemed? ![]() (BTW I'm definitely not complaining about the fact that there are so many books on sale, I just consider that my decision making process takes a bit of care and time, because after all I don't want just any book, lol) |

Nah. I don't buy books for the sake of buying books, but Kobo is making some good suggestions by email lately. They're actually suggesting books in the same or similar genres that I DON'T have.
The only thing that ticks me off is the price difference between regions. That is just ridiculous. Today I've bought a five book omnibus. Log into my Dutch Kobo account: € 24.75 Log into "my" US Kobo account*: $ 18.95 (€ 14.15) This is an over €10 saving right there. PERKOPOLIS takes another 40% off the US price, getting me five books for €8.49. Sometimes, if I can't get a book using my Dutch or US account, I "travel" to UK or India; sometimes the prices in India ridiculously low. They incite me to just send an e-mail to Kobo asking them to remove DRM from the books and sell me their entire Fantasy and Science-Fiction catalog. (* To be honest, it's a relative's account who often stays in the USA and has an address there.) |

I am sometimes overwhelmed so I began a wishlist spreadsheet. Also to make it easier for my wallet and my brain cells I have decided to cut own on fictions. Once I restrict myself to buying mostly non-fictions that eliminate a great deal of choices and that is a strategy that I find rather helpful.

ROFL, that was what I did too. Easier to track whatever I wanted to buy, and I also added a whole chuck of upcoming books with supposed release dates for easier access to the information without having to keep checking back one by one since I keep forgetting it.
![]() And easier to track my spending too. ![]() |

I've gotten some good bargains at kobo due to the perkopolis coupon. Just last night I bought one for .99 that actually cost me just .59 with the coupon. I was surprised it worked actually as it was so inexpensive to begin with. Another that was $4.99 cost me just $2.99 so not really big savings but every penny saved is good.

Normally, 40% would be seen as big savings.
PERKOPOLIS is unlimited use, so it can be used on cheap books as well. I never use single-use coupons for cheap books. Most of the time, I have some very expensive omnibus waiting, to be discounted using a 75%+ code. Strangely enough though, regarding Raymond E. Feist, his omnibuses are often MUCH more expensive than the separate books. You can get three of his older Riftwar Cycle books for €12 or so (priced like €1.99, €3.99 and €5.99), while the same books as an omnibus cost €20+. I find that a strange situation. |

My pricing Excel spreadsheet has a set of columns with the actual prices for each country, with another set of columns with the discounted price (automatically calculated) coloured from green to red, with green being the cheapest. That way, I know which country to buy from.

Yep, I also received the bullo email from Kobo re a pre-purchase:

I'm wondering if anyone has received a pre-order book of late and the transaction went through smoothly. That is, the receipt of a pre-order that wasn't purchased in the India 3 cent sale. ![]() |
