Would it be possible to have an option to reorder the entries in the grouping drawer? Alternatively (and possibly a little less work), would it be possible to have an option to have the custom groupings show up at the top of the list, rather than at the bottom.

I apologize if all my recent requests are little things. Its your own fault for already doing all the big ones.

One more thing. Would it be possible to have an option to suppress the blank grouping in each of the standard and custom groups?

I really only care about it in custom groups, but when I create one, I really only care about the ones that have values, and its a little annoying to see the <<>> on each one.

Added to the wish list. I should be able to reuse the stuff in book details that supports both selection and order.

Added to the wish list. I am not yet convinced that this is a good idea, mostly because of the law of unintended consequences. For example, someone will hide it somewhere then ask for a way to temporarily get it back, perhaps as the "not" operators in calibre's tag browser or clicks on the group name selecting the books represented in the list under the group (minus blank if it is hidden).

I don't know if this helps, but I promise never to do that.

Also, if you only do this for custom columns, people can always add a "blank" value.

"I believe I saw mentioned you were considering cloud connect? Please please please PLEASE do add this! I keep my library on dropbox, and I've been using Calibre Cloud Pro to access it on the go,"

seconded- my my case it is not because I am " on the go" it's because I often read at night when main PC with calibre library is OFF, so I use the c cloud app to fetch next book from my dropbox library backup.

IF your CC could access dropbox as the content server, then I could dispense with the "other" CC ( which amazon annoyingly flag as not compatible with my Kindle and for which they have pulled the free version from their app store - So I am stuck with an out of date version of that already)

I bought Calibre Companion a while back, and while it's a nice little app, there's one thing that makes me give up every time.
It doesn't scan and read the books already on my device. I have several devices that I read on, and they don't all have the same books. So I need something that knows what's already on the device, so the books aren't duplicated. For instance, I only keep a few books on my phone, but my large tablet has everything, and it's a Windows one, so I can't use CC. My small tablet has around 300 books but only reads the few I've tried on CC, and then they're dupes.
Ideally, when I point Calibre to my Books file, it should be able to read the books already there.
It doesn't read anything it hasn't downloaded for itself.
I would love to use it as an organiser. It's a great idea, but unless I'm prepared to use the Companion alone, it's not feasible.

Unless you have shut off the option in CC's settings, CC does scan for books already on the device when you connect to calibre as a wireless device. That permits CC to get metadata from calibre, which it needs to be able to do anything. Of course, the scan will only find books that are in the folder(s) that you told CC (in settings) to use. It will not scan other folders.

CC cannot reliably get metadata from books. Most books contain no or partial metadata, and often the metadata that is there is wrong. That is why CC must discuss the books with calibre.

Wow, it worked! The box was unchecked on my (vanilla) version of CC. Maybe it should be checked by default?
But thank you very much for your help. Now I can give CC another try!

is it possible add the ability to choose the book name to save when downloading from the content server? I think I remember you saying you didn't want to have a save template for that, but that would be my first wish. If you won't do a template, can I be at least prompted with the book name that's currently used and the ability to change it?

I want this because Moon+ relies on the book name to sync reading position and I don't want to use the book ID because I sometimes open a book thru a file manager. I like to leave Moon+ as the default reader so the only other way to open a book is thru a file manager.

My current save template uses Title, but it's actually saved as Title sort so some book names don't match.

I have modified calibre so that the content server can fetch the template used by the wireless device. That change will be in the next release of calibre. I have also changed CC to use that feature, as shown in the attachment. I am not sure when I will release this change.

Thanks!!

The content server uses title - authors now and a recent book I added to CC wirelessly used title sort instead of title. Is there a setting in Calibre that makes it substitute title sort for title? I couldn't find any. I can post my template when I get home later.

See calibre's tweak "Control formatting of title and series when used in templates (ID: save_template_title_series_sorting)".

Thanks, I swear I looked at all the tweaks.

The content server download doesn't use this tweak now - will it in the future? Is that asking too much?

Once calibre and CC are cooperating on using the device template, it will respect the tweak.
