Looking for a few members to try out an online personal library service.

Hey everyone.
I hope it's okay for me to post this here.

I have a sizeable ebook collection (PDFs, ePubs, DJVUs, etc.) and for the longest time I could not find a convenient way to access my books away from home, or organize and read them the way I wanted.

So, being a developer, I started to build my own application to fit my needs exactly. This way I would have all the features I always wanted (store my books online, read online, read on my phone or tablet, categorize/label/note, search, share, etc.) and I could stop carrying sdcards with ebooks in my wallet (I know.) or using Dropbox.

I noticed that other users had similar issues: wanting a nice way to archive books (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/arc...p/t-12192.html, https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=1765126), wanting to share books with family and friends (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/arc...p/t-12830.html), tired of using Dropbox (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=153473). So I made note of it (clearly) and started making my personal app something I could share with others.

Well, it has come to that fateful day where the service is ready for some private testers. I figured here would be the best place to seek interested test users rather than the conventional sources.

If you think you might be interested, send me a private message or visit the landing page here .

Thanks!

It needs Calibre Sync,öotherwise noone will upload thousands of books by hand and keep organizing two libraries.

Thanks for the interest guys.
Keep it coming, I want to take as many of you on board as possible.

Regarding syncing with Calibre: the service allows you to drag-and-drop a folder of ebooks for instant uploading, and extracts the meta-data from each book.

This means if you drag and drop the folder where Calibre stored your books, every file would be uploaded and its meta-data (author, title, etc.) would be extracted from the file.
So, there shouldn't be any need to upload thousands of books by hand and it should be just a one time thing.

That is great feedback though GERGE.
I am not sure if you are among those who have signed up already, but I am eager to hear your feedback after using the service.

Thanks for the suggestion Crich.

I actually don't own any e-readers, only tablets and smart phones, so I never got a chance to test the Kindle.

However, the service works on anything that has a web browser (laptops,tablet,smartphones,etc.). So I think that would include Kindle devices (the ones that have a web browser at least).

If you signed up, and your Kindle device does have a web browser, it would be great to try out the site on the Kindle and give your thoughts in the service's comment/suggestion box.

-- Edit --
Thanks for signing up Crich.
We can try out the Kindle (if it has a browser) if you're interested!

Sure. I have the PaperWhite (1st Gen) which has the standard experimental browser.

What security measures are you putting in place to ensure that the books can only be accessed by the legitimate owner of the books? Presumably some sort of authentication is required? If not, this could be abused by pirates.

You are correct. Any user uploaded book or related material can only be accessed by the owner as well as the users the owner has decided to share it with.

The pricing is still something to be determined. Currently, there is a free version and a full version with more features that may range from $4-8 per month.

There may be a very large permanent discount for testers.

Great questions guys.

Thanks for all the responses guys

I've sent out an email to the first batch of users.
If you didn't get one, double-check your spam folder!

For anyone else who didn't sign up yet but is still interested,
submit your email anyway and I'll add you to the next batch of users.

Best.
