With phone.apk and telephony.apk removed from the system folder I already notice a huge difference in how long it takes the T68 to shut off.

I wonder if the battery needs a period of "formatting".
After the strange behavior from the days past, now the reader acts as expected. I have fully charged two days ago and, with very minor use, it's true, it still shows 94%. And the readings are consistent: if I use it then it discharges a bit. If it doesn't then it stays put. Did anybody else suffer from the issues in this thread and kept the reader (did not return) and the issues are still there even two weeks after (let's say) ? |

This should not be necessary on the Onyx. It should already be done by Onyx out of the box. If Onyx didnt preconfigure this, then it would put Onyx into question IMO. This is the first thing I do after rooting an Android OS. Its basic and necessary stuff. The end user should not have to do this on an ereader sold as open Android. |

Having a high battery drain (5/6 days of reading) and realized via Setings->Battery that standby+telephony could be the culprit, i'm now testing the "Airplane mode", to see if there are improvements in battery life. If not, i'll rename/remove all telephony stuff...
Ok, i know that if i need wifi, i'ii have to exit from "airplane mode" but i don't use wifi a lot. HP |

well, me too, on a booxtor t68 i have, after 3 days since the last recharge, I am on 50%, which, to be honest, is not supposed to happen, since I don't use wifi, or internet, or any of the connectivity sh*t. I am only using it for reading. as hupert suggested, i turned airplane mode on and will see what happens. now I ask: how i can rename those apk files? or is it better to completely remove it? and yes, I have root access.

I am happy to report that my reader is behaving sort of ok. It's been 5 days on battery, wifi and bluetooth are off. Been reading on it an hour or two every day and it's at 81%. It's not bad. Now only if this behaviour would be consistent.
Also it matters a lot how it behaves (battery consumption-wise) when wifi is on. Like I said, I'm always comparing w/ my NSTG which lasts for a really long time w/out any special treatment on my part... |

And just as I wrote the above, when I connected the reader to the PC to try to root it the battery percentage now says 68% !

Thanks for your inputs. The apks are still there even in the latest software release for the M96 (2014-09-02), as is the default setting for mobile data being on. By the way, I could't find telephony.apk. Did you mean TelephonyProvider.apk? I renamed the Phone.apk & TelephonyProvider.apk in /system/app/ and turned off mobile data. My (M96's actually) battery usage showed 46% contribution from to cell standby. Hope this helps. |
