Kobo E_Reader wifi upgrade gone bad - Page 12

Hello peeps. Thanks to all senders of this old image file. I too have the n647 and am stuck :/ Once I get this file how should I proceed.?? I am very computer savvy however am kobo dumb

To use it, have a look at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=209122. That is instructions for doing a similar thing with the Glo. The steps are all the same, except that you don't need to create the image in the first place.

I restored the image to another microSD card I had and it works again. Popping off the back was a bit more complicated than suggested, or my reader is of a different construction. On mine the front 'rim' comes off exposing the PCB. I than had to undo 4 tiny screws and lift the PCB out. The micro SD was on the back of the PCB. When I have time I will try to write the image to the microSD when in situ. DFSEE sees it when the reader is connected to the pc, so it should be able to write the image> Easier than having to take the reader apart. I also took a look at the card with the faulty update on it, it produced a lot of read errors at the end. After writing an image to it the read errors were gone so the media itself is not defective.

I recently experienced the forced 1.9.11 update on my Kobo Wifi N647and now shows "No books found" and no "Onboard Storage" under device info after no luck with the various types of resets. Can someone please send me the pre-update firmware and possibly a link/procedure to how to apply the firmware and restore functionality to my reader?

Hi,

i own a n647 kobo. doesnt get recognized by calibre. firmware: 1.9.11.

If I could get a link to the file in a PM and the instructions on how to fix this. I would truly appreciate it.

Why I'm asking is because after flashing the internal sd card I had your account on my kobo so I did a reset. I used the Kobo software to log into my account but by doing this the Kobo updated itself again to the 1.9.11 (6/1/13) [from your image I got 1.9.0].
As far as I read in the thread it sounds to me that the 1.9.11 is just buggy and it is just a matter of time till the trouble is back. If so is there a way to prevent the update? (Obviously disessembling the Kobo everytime for restoring would be really anoying). Or did I just misunderstood sth and now erverything is fine??

I did forget to mention you have to reset the device using the menu once it's powered up to allow you to change the account info back to your own. I'm not sure how to disable the update when your logged in, perhaps there is a option within the menu structure to not allow auto updates, I'm not sure.

The problem will certainly reoccur if it gets updated, perhaps not immediately, but within a few startup/shutdown cycles. I don't have mine any more as Kobo replaced it so I cannot go through the options to see if you can disable the updates, sorry.

My Kobo N289 succumbed to the same tragedy after an update to 1.9.11. Tried resetting multiple times, but it just says, "no books found".

Can anyone please give link to the old firmware and steps on how to install?
