Coffee. Generic corner-store dark roast, brewed in a recently acquired 1920's coffee pot that I rescued when I discovered it was about to be pitched. It really does make truly great coffee, though I'm not sure I should be using it very much since I suspect it might contain lead. It also has an improvised and dangerous cord at the moment since the original had corroded to dust, thus the pot poses a bit of an electrocution risk by combining water with exposed 120vac contacts. So far I've remembered to warn any house guests that wander too close to it while it is brewing. I figure if you aren't willing to risk death for a good cup of coffee, you really don't need it that much.

Second tea of the day after driving my wife to the train station. Today is our daughter's last day at her summer internship -- they'll pack and be home tonight.

There's something happening here
But what it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look - what's going down?

Good morning, everyone. Libyan conflict – Gaza conflict – Ukrainian unrest... and yet so many think the biggest problem is that they have to press #1 for English. Such small minds... Oh well, might as well bring it on. Today is a good day for learning something new. I have a new tea to taste, a Ceylon tea that I found in a small market yesterday. Should be ready in two minutes. I'm going to try fencing with a new arm today too. See what it's like to be right-handed and ordinary. Then dinner and music with friends to wrap up a Saturday nicely.

And here is one of what the trail looked like

And I had Crystal Light in my camel pack - which is like a cup just you carry it on your back instead of in your hand. Was an 8.8 mile hike. A few suicide bomber butterflies tried to take me out, but my martial arts training got me through it relatively fine.

So I'll drink my tea. Today it's Helladiv's "English Breakfast" tea. Not bad, not great. Drinkable without comment. Suitable for a morning like this. Almost apathetic.

Pretty darn good. My range of motion is very good and it actually looks like a knee instead of a mused cantaloupe. Biggest problem is that it is exacerbating some old injuries as I am walking correctly for the first time in 4 years. There is a nuerosurgen in my very near future

Gotta love this bionic age!

Home again after fencing and drinking an afternoon mug of PG Tips tea as I get ready to throw my gear into the washing machine.

Oh, that view! I hike 3 or 4 times a week at my local state park, usually a three mile loop. In the last two weeks, though, there have been two seemingly random attacks on lone women on trails in the metro area. One was on a popular cycling/walking trail, when a runner was pulled into the woods and severely beaten. Then a week later in another state park close to here a woman was tazed as she rode her bike along a narrow trail. The wires hit her helmet and she was able to escape.

I let it keep me down for a couple of days, but then I decided I wasn't going to let fear of the boogeyman decide my life choices. They believe the attacks are unrelated, so I don't think I'm in a whole lot more danger than I was before. I texted my route to a family member, grabbed my water bottle and emergency whistle, and went. There were actually rangers brought in to patrol the trails and they checked on me at one point on my walk. I felt good about it. Here's some pics I took - usually there are deer but I got a late start and it was HOT.

Betty, are you wearing that whistle on your wrist, wearing around your neck, or attaching it to the shoulder strap of your daypack? I KNOW you aren't keeping it in your pocket....

Keep on truckin'!

Definitely - can't let fear rule your life. Take some reasonable precautions, and keep playing the game of life.

Though, looks like I got some poison ivy... *sigh*
