Today I was listening to a sample of the audiobook of Skin Game - his jogs through his tunnels. What the prisoners had to say was disgusting according to my wife. I just thought it was funny as hell, especially the way the audiobook sounded. But then I learned about Harry through the books, she did not.

I will from now on make extensive use of spoiler tags again.

Thank you. I know it can be difficult to discuss books without some spoilers, but that did seem like a big one.

Sometimes its easy to avoid small spoilers. Since I've yet to finish Summer's Knight, I tend to skip posts that are discussing later books. Your post hit me by surprise since it was about what age the series are appropriate for.

I don't know when I'll get back to the series, so I should probably stop reading this thread anyway. It's just that I enjoy reading it now and again

The problem with appropriate for children unfortunately is imho not enough to explain with violence, nudity, and mental abuse. You got all that in Harry Potter as well, maybe not so much nudity. Based on that alone Harry Dresden might as well be children appropriate. Except the context. Also depending on your religion paranormal sex scenes with at least one non-human participant can be a deal breaker weather it be adult or child reader.

The two major examples that are now within the spoiler were most horrific ones that came to mind. Winhout them my argument would have been less compelling. There is a lot of other things, but usually takes an adult reader to read betweet the lines. But if children read enough hints, eventually they will learn the concept. For example treachery and how to (almost) get away with it.

Hang on there. Summer Knight was my least favorite installment. The next book has some great characters and a good setup for events to follow...
